Hmmm, do I need a new PSU?

Hm, I may be pushing the power on my computer. I'm currently running the following specs:
AMD Phenom II X4 965BE
HyperMaster 212+ 125mm cooler, single 125mm fan
16GB Kingston HyperMax DDR3 1333mhz
HIS IceQ Radeon HD6870 GDDR5
500GB 7200RPM 6/0.Gbps Hard Drive
And an Ultra LSP550w power supply.

Now, according to many others, the 550w power supply has %80+ power efficiency, and seems to rival companies like thermaltake and other good PSU companies. Will this be enough to fuel my monsterous RAM and GPU?

Probably want to wait for people that know more than I do, but I'm pretty sure that's fine. As long as you have a decent power supply 450 watts should be more than enough.

yes, 550 watts will do plenty for such a system. not even my i7 2600k and 560TI pulls that much tongue.gif ram doesn't really pull much power by the way smile.gif

While a proper 400w unit will be able to power your system, you have a rather poor, overrated unit made by RuiShengYua. Quite honestly, I would toss it out of your system and invest in a competent PSU.

Hm, really? I've been told by others whom have used this PSU that it is pretty decent, considering it's value. It seems to output ~440watts.

More like 360w based on the combined wattage on the 12V rail. Also, it doesn't seem that the PSU is continuous at 550w, only says "Max combined watts" which is a clue that it's junk.

Like qwan456 mentioned, get something better. I'd suggest this Antec EarthWatts EA-650 for $45 after MIR and coupon.

My budget has taken a beating when it comes to hardware, so… I'll try and do some research, thanks.

Thats fine you could probably even live with a 450W, if you ever upgrade to say a 7970 then you would need 500W/ more
