So in theory one could turn a Deluxe into a Deluxe/WD merely by swapping out the wireless card. The user manual does not specify the Intel wireless card. Could someone who has this board reply with the model Intel wireless card delivered with this board?

Thanks,
Harry

yes, as easy as that.

any 1155 mobo can do widi as long as you have a processor that have igpu and intel wireless card that supports widi.

so basically, the only difference between those two asus mobo is the wireless card

hardly an elegant solution flooding the already congested 2.4ghz band with more stuff, the only benefit is the lack of dongles but its rather limiting to specific intel setups

IMO i'd just go with a 5ghz wireless HDMI sender

hmm anyway the software side of things is basically intel right? I might just buy a receiver and gut the intel wifi from my laptop and test it on my asrock boards

I think there's more to converting a Deluxe into a Deluxe/WD than installing the Intel WiDi wireless card. Intel uses the phrase "manufacturer enabled" in listing WiDi requirements. See this Intel page

Comparing Asus downloads pages of the Deluxe/WD and Deluxe:

  1. There's no wireless driver listed on the Deluxe/WD download page,
  2. Different BIOS and Utilities than those of the Deluxe - evidence of "manufacturer enablement" of the BIOS &etc?

It appears for WiDi capability the Asus P8Z77-I Deluxe must have its BIOS and utilities changed those of the Deluxe/WD.

Anyone else see the massive lag when he cloned the display?

This is interesting but pointless IMHO. I'll pass.

nope, i already tried that WIDI thing with my MAXIMUS V GENE, i just installed an intel wireless card and that's it. you need a WIDI receiver though for your hdtv, i used PUSH2TV.

and yes it is laggy as hell, this tech is not ready for prime time

probly because its hammering the 2.4ghz band and there is alot of other wireless devices taking that space too.

what resolution you are running? maybe try dropping it down to something else
