I like by ps3, but it's basically an exclusive title platform for me, blu-ray player and Netflix streamer. I've spent minimal money upgrading my computer over the years. I buy parts at a time. Never spent 600 in one shot on a computer.

This is easy:

1. Ease of use
2. Cheaper
3. HTPCs suck for gaming
4. Most people aren't geeks like you

So you're calling anyone who build their own PC a geek? rolleyes.gif

I built my own PC, I also own a CBR600 (look at my avatar) I hunt deer, and sometimes duck with the 12 Gauge, and I love engineering, and I also work an a dairy farm.

Everything above, renders your argument, invalid.

Most people are not computer tolerant. They may still love to play games, but the idea of pushing that start button and having a problem is inconceivable to them.

I did 6 years in the army, train in muay thai, and used to work door security. I'm still a geek.

Your argument is invalid. :)

The reality folks is that alot of people don't have the information or knowledge to do what people on this forum may suggest. HTPC? Say that acronym exactly to someone and they'll likely go ***?! :O

What may seem really simple to you can be a big headache for someone without the knowledge or experience. To some people they really just cannot be dealing with the time and hassle when they can just plug and play.

I want to look at this subject in a different way

MARKETING.

Console games and console hardware is being marketed like CRAZY. On TV, on cinemas, on papers or on internet. It has been advertised so crazy that people actually believe that consoles are superior to the PCs.

I live in Turkey and I have tons of friends who would defend how amazing PS3 is compared to PC and PS3 has waaay better graphics. Of course these folks rarely see how I game on my current PC and probably compare their office computers from 2002 to Ps3 or something.

Also there is this misleading about Big Picture capabality. I mean the TVs. When a game is connected to a 40" or a 50" TV, people usually assume that seeing it on a Big screen is amazing in graphical quality but technicaly when a game in any resolution will only look less good in quality when the screen size gets bigger and bigger, cause the pixels would get bigger.

This can be a very very very long conversation and most of the points I want to make has been made already, but again marketing is one of the main reasons that makes a regular consumer believe that consoles are superiour to the PC gaming.

You might still be a geek, there are loads of car geeks and gun geeks, and ESPECIALLY engineering geeks. Go ask a hot girl if she thinks its geeky to be part of a club dedicated to AMD's 6900 series of computer graphics cards on a computer building message board that you have 2000 posts on and report back.

No need to get defensive about it. It's not 1960 anymore.

I love cars, I love computers, I have a lot of interests. I am a geek on the inside, but you would not look at me and think that. I have no shame it my interests and I don't know why anyone else should. This thread is bound to fail the longer its up because people are just going to want to argue.
