Why buy a console? - Page 9

The reason for PS3 is for MGS4

And the reason for PS4 is for MGS5

Honestly, I only bought a PS3 for MGS4, and looking forward to MGS5 on the PS4

I don't understand why so many people are so close-minded to themselves. For all the people who find computer stuff so simple to do, what do you think about cooking, tailoring, playing musical instruments? Can you do those things easily as well or is it something you lack knowledge of and consider "too hard"?

For OCN, computers are our passion, but I'm sure many of us lack knowledge and skill about other things and don't bother to learn more about them. Just because our lives are surrounded by computers, it does not mean people will go out of their way to learn more about it. They find it boring, tedious, and unnecessary.

Take for example, learning physics or circuits. I'm willing to bet a good chunk of OCN members don't even know the inner workings of a computer. How many of us here are willing to take the time to learn about gate clocking, digital circuits, programming, and whatnot? A lot of us simply know how to put the parts together and maintain the PC, but do we really know what goes on when we do something?

There are tons of reasons to own a console..The real question is why own ONLY a console as a gaming platform or why use consoles are your main gaming platform. thumb.gif

4. you always are able to play the games without crashes because consoles can be easily and properly tested compared to millions of PC configs. (right?)
5. gameplay is always smooth
6. no hackers in multiplayer games (unless you play with the PC counterparts)

1. Not really.
2. Not usually.
3. Depends what model you bought at first.
4. Have had about as many crashes on consoles as PC
5. Most definitely not.
6. You must not play online much... Consoles have TONS of hackers in multiplay

=P was just poking fun at what you were saying earlier just cause people tend to make it out like PC's are hard to operate, when really they need ~10 min of attention a month to keep running smooth.

im really curious where some of you came up with this "consoles are for lazy people" idea. is a computer somehow more physically strenuous to game on? last time i checked it takes the exact same amount of effort to game on a console as it does on a PC.

heres some very good reasons why a console is "better" for gaming.

1. dont need to worry if your i9 7540k @ 6 gigglehurtz and quad GTX 78 millions will play the game properly.
2. consoles are cheaper.
3. games can be traded in if you end up not liking them or getting bored. good luck trying to trade in a PC game.
4. consoles can do plenty of stuff that computers can do like browse the internet or watch netflix etc.
5. can play a console from your couch/bed/floor/chair. computers means youre stuck at a desk unless you wanna deal with trying to use a keyboard and mouse on your lap. even using a controller on a PC you still need access to a keyboard/mouse to enter/leave games.

maybe i missed something but are computer games free? last i checked they cost the same amount as a console game.

Each platform has its own benefits. I played a lot of console games growing up. Currently it is more convenient for me to just game on my PC, I don't even keep a TV. But that is nothing wrong with playing games on a console, there are a lot of great games on consoles, I kind of miss some of the exclusives.

XBox with a a pile of bundled games cost $400 at the end of last year. Even if I could build a decent PC for that money over here (which I can't), on the XBox I can chuck in any game I want without ever having to read through the specs.

Oh and I like the controller. Grew up as a PC gamer playing Doom, Heretic, DN3D, never properly played on a console until my brothers got one last Christmas. Now I'm converted.

Halo.

I got Metro 2033 for 5 bucks, ($40 on console at the time)
I got Borderlands + all DLC for $15 (about $50 on console at the time)
I got Red Orchestra 2 for 15 bucks, and here in New Zealand you can't really buy it for consoles.

That there saved me $65.00 That quite alot when you think about it, just on game savings.

Just keep collecting them, don't need to play the just coll---... Oh wait, that's just me... (Has been out of the gaming 'mood' for the last 9 months)

Anywho, it really depends on money and preference as usual.

More of the people I 'knew' IRL have consoles than computers, and their computers are usually low end single core laptops they use for Word, MSN and Facebook.
That said, I know they don't really see the point to 'computer' gaming. Sure we played CS1.6 / CoD1 and such back in the day on the school computers, but that was it. They didn't see the excitement in a computer to warrant spending 2-3x the price of a console.
That and it was mostly Sony consoles that dominated with those friends, nothing beats a bit of Valkyria Chronicles 2 or Tekken or Dissidia though pretty much every lesson where a computer wasn't available xD!

If you want to know my reason for Console gaming, it's the exclusives.. Console exclusives.. Sure you'll whine and complain that the Graphics are better on a computer, but a real gamer plays the game for the game. The fancy graphics are the optional extra. I'd opt to play Star Ocean (Even my JP Blue Sphere GBC game) over pretty much any of the recent games that have come out.
I still adore Star Ocean: The Second Story (PS1), hence why Rena Lanford is still as my display picture ~ <3

Proud owner of an apparent 800+ Steam games (Although that includes DLC content) and have easily built up a collection of retail games.

Yes, some people do download and play cracked games. Some people ONLY do that. But the majority of people either don't play for long due to lack of online capabilities or achievements or whichever and usually end up buying the game thereafter.

Also if you want to go down that route, hack a PS3, Xbox, PSP, DS, most consoles.. and you get 'free' games.
