2 X GTX 690 or 4 X HD 7970 for Resolutions 5760 + 1080 >

Man I'm getting confused with what I have been reading... looked like Nvidia was the way to go with all the Benchmarks that I have seen... until of course I upgrade to 5760 + 1080 and finished purchasing my 2nd GTX 690!

From most of the reviews I read earlier this morning it looks like AMD scales way better than Nvidia in 3+ Monitor setups... Most of these reviews were from Months ago. So I was looking for advice as my 2nd GTX 690 was ordered up yesterday along with my Water Block.

Should I cancel and go with Quad X Fire 7970's? Have the drivers improved with Nvidia for SLI GTX 690?

By the way Im running 3 120Hz Monitors as well... that is why I want to make sure that i'm getting the best performance possible out of the 2 above scenarios!

What say you?

It's hard to find any recent benchmarks for Quad SLI Vs Quad Xfire at High resolutions. Do you have any links you can suggest?

AMD gets better performance scaling the higher the resolution, I would go with the 7970s. Nvidia would be recommended at 1080p and lower, anything 1600p and above almost always AMD.

that setup that you want sucks. quad fire and and quad sli are horrible in games. only good for benchmarking and totally a waste of cash. the best setup is xfire x or tri sli and even then you will need to just run sli in some games. http://www.vortez.net/articles_pages/gtx680_quad_sli_vs_hd7970_quad_crossfirex,4.html

you can get either of them and they both perform good. even for triple screens i would get nvidia gpus but thats just me.

i would go with 3 7970s the 4th card is only goin to get u like 10% more fps in most games and cause more headaches than its worth.

If you play metro or skyrim, but who still plays metro?

Anyways, starting with three is a good idea, then see if you need another. Three wasn't enough for me though.

if ur board handles 4 cards at full x16 speeds then that will always be faster... That's going to be crazy though man thumb.gif

2x 690's will max almost everything at 1080p based resolutions though... I say keep the 690's so u have physx

7970's are better at surround period, and far cheaper than a pair of GTX690's. You have more Vram, better compute should you require it.

Although i would agree that 3 GPU's would be a good start. 4 GPU's rarely do well (except benchmarking) and can in fact hamper performance rather than improve it especially in gaming scenarios.

If i was to buy now, i'd be all over 7970's.
