Hi all :-)

I am in the process of updating my computer and building another computer with my old parts for my grandchildren. I have purchased an Intel i7 3770K , Nvidia 660 Ti 2GB, I have an Asus P7P55 LX motherboard and that is my question will this motherboard run my new CPU I currently have the Intel i5 650. I have looked at the specs of the motherboard and it says it will play the i7 , but would like to know of another motherboard that I could purchase to go along with my other upgrades. Any help will be greatly appriciated by myself and my grandkids. Also would like to purchase a new hard drive for the Grandkids build all ideas welcomed. Thanks in advance, Mark G.

Your current mobo is a socket 1156 while your new processor is a socket 1155. You need a socket 1155 mobo for your new processor. You can filter mobs by socket type at newegg.com

I would go SSD over HDD.

Hi:-)

Thanks for the fast reply and the great information. I really thought that my current Motherboard would run my new CPU until I checked into your answer. SO again thanks . What was throwing me was that on the information sheet with the mothterboard it said would run intel i3,i5,i7 . I asume that these new generation CPU are different. SO again thanks for the help have purchased the Asus P8H77-M-Pro It looks like this is all I sould need to complete the new update.

Get a Z68 mobo...if you think they might want to overclock in the future

I think it's a terrible time to buy storage. HDD prices are still way too high, and while SSD prices have fallen considerably, they're still falling, and if you're like me, you want to wait a little more.
