Poor FPS/Low GPU usage

Not sure if this is the right section, but here's the deal:

My FPS (specifically, in Borderlands 2) scales almost 1:1 with GPU usage. (ex: 38% usage nets me 38 FPS)
The game itself is capped at 50fps, but never consistently delivers 50. CPU usage (from what I can tell) peaks around 85%. My question is: is this a CPU bottleneck? This is all I can think of. Specs are in my sig-

here's a screenshot of MSI afterburner and task manager as well.

This looks like a CPU bottleneck to me. It may be sandy bridge but I don't think a dual core can power a GTX 580.

Hrm well judging by the results from a CPU/GPU review on one of the tech sites (it was in the news section here for a few days) it seems that the more beef you have, the better your game plays, across the board. And that's in the CPU department. However I would guess that your CPU isn't so much a bottleneck, as in the game is supposedly able to really take advantage of four cores. You're on a dual with HT.

Anyways, try messing with drivers, etc etc - it could just be that drivers aren't optimized for the game yet. thumb.gif

I'm betting this is -part- of the case since the game is less than a week old, but.. I have no doubt that I'm at least somewhat limited by my CPU. Turning PhysX from High to Low smoothed out the FPS a little bit, but.. I'm still not getting consistent frames sad-smiley-002.gif

I'm kinda doubting that its the drivers since I've been running the game at a consistent 80FPS maxed @ 1440p. Your 580 should be able to handle this game easily at 1080p.

this is strange I´d try another driver or re install the game, see if cpu is working w/o throttle, gpu is in more than 1.0@16x,, game is maxed out,, that 580 GTX runs better..try ocing 580 GTX and seeing if it changes or not...

Make sure PhysX is turned off or on Low (that is off). Also, ensure that vsync is turned off (and make sure NVCP isn't forcing it on). Also, might want to try the latest drivers.

You're not being CPU bottlenecked, my i5 / 7970 has some strange issues with this game too.

Haven't tried turning vsync off, but I doubt that's the issue. I'm using the latest drivers (306.23) as well, so.. bah!
