HD6990- Buy another one?

Thread Starter
I currently have the HD 6990-it has a waterblock on it, with a triple radiator etc.
My question, there is one on sale for about 400 dollars right now.
Should I get it, and crossfire it with my other one and liquid cool it too?

What would be the pros/cons for getting it or not?

P.S-they're discontinued, so average price for them seems to be 900+

Quad XFIRE in the past has not been....the best of investments.
Diminishing returns and all that...

BTW did you check your mobo manual to make sure that is supported?

i will do it. if you need the upgrade. given that if you are on a 1080p monitor you dont need the upgrade.

everything has its pros and cons. imo at full price the returns are diminishing, but at a used price now the returns are worth it. you get around 50% increase in performance which i think for $400 now is pretty good.

i got my gtx 590 for $400 cdn. i m waiting for it to drop another $100 and grab another one for crysis 3.

My motherboard does support quadfire AMD and SLI.
I do have multiple monitors, so it would not just be 1920x1080 resolutions.
The 400 was for a new one also.
My thoughts are, since I have one 6990 right now, having the second one, I should not have to upgrade for quite a while.

I also have a 1300w PSU, so my rig is setup to handle two of these days.

Full price being 800+, I do not think that I would consider it.
But at 400 for a new card? That has caught my Attention..

if you are gaming at higher resolutions then why not since you got the equipment to do it. its better to do that then to sell your card now and spend $500 on a gtx 680 for less performance.

people cry about 'driver' issues, but in reality yes they do suck at all game launch but eventually it gets patched up. unless you are one of those that need to play the game on launch date, then you probably won't run into profile issues, and even if there is a driver issue with quad fire, disabling one and using it as crossfire will probably run any game just fine.

SLI - 2 cards best

Crossfire - 3 cards best

Before you pull the trigger.......how is the electrical wiring in your home?
If you have a really old house with old wiring you may want to think twice.

Well, I have a younger brother who is an electrician, he does the wiring and moved the loads over to make it work. In that perspective, it should not be an issue (1980s house)
How does the motherboard read dual gpu cards though?
Does it read it as two separate cards? or does it read it as 1 card.
Aka, would two 6990s be considered quad-firing? Or is that a grey area.
