Sandy bridge degrade at 1.4v? You bet!

Dont want to start a war off here, or sound snooty. But I just wanted to make others aware that sandy bridge cpus DO degrade at around 1.4v, even if they are kept at manageable temperatures.

My 2700k passed a 12 hr prime95 test at 1.41v for 4.9ghz last year. It was folded on for 6 months or so at 100% full load, but temperatures were good and kept under 80C 99% of the time. However I went for another prime95 test few days ago and failed after not even one hour. I have now had to lower my overclock down to 4.8ghz to pass at 1.41v. So its not a huge amount of degrading and chances are will only apply to those who game alot or fold on thier cpus. But the degrading is still present and for someone hoping to keep thier cpu running overclocked for years on end, I highly suggest keeping under 1.4v and under 75C at least.

They also degrade at stock voltages...

Anything above 0mv just makes it degrade at an increased rate. I am surprised you did not know that.

what do you expect when you run an overclocked cpu at 100% load for 6 months

I'll bet its not degraded, just "worn in" like I like to call it. They all do that. Add about 0.025v to it or so, and I'll bet it'll be stable, and will stay that way for the rest of the time you own it.

My chip originally wanted 1.36v for 4.5GHz. After the "break in period" it wanted about 1.39v or so. 4.8GHz was 1.41v when I first got it, then after it was about 1.45-1.46v or so. Ever since the "break in", I haven't had to add any more voltage at all.

A little electron migration never hurt anyone...they are right either back down the OC or increase the volts.
If it's only 100mhz or 0.05v I wouldn't worry about it...that normally happens with a year old chip.
(You have been running your chip very hard for 6 months.)

My 2600k has been running at 4.5ghz and 1.34v for just over a year now (air cooling only).

I'd advise you to not run your chip so damn hot but that's just my opinion.
Did you check to make sure it's not automatically downclocking due to excessive heat?

Both my 2500K and 2700K ended up needing about 0.03-0.04 more volts after about a month of use, and have been fine since.

my 2600k was same way after about a month it needed a little more vcore iv had it downclocked to 4500 for 4-5 months and just put it back to 5ghz for borderlands 2 and it still runs stable on the old vcore it took befor.

My giess it is the 24x7 80c for so long that degraded it more than the voltage,
