Best $700 gaming build?

Thread Starter
Hello! I'm looking to build my first pc, and being an unemployed highschool student, I'm on a budget: 700 dollars as the title said.

First of all, I NEED AN OS, and I am not comfortable pirating. That basically leaves me with 600 dollars for parts. I realize this isn't much of a budget for a gaming pc, but work with me here smile.gif
I can stretch my budget a tiny bid, but not more than 30 to 50 dollars. And if this is avoidable, I would prefer to avoid it.

Anyhow, I guess I'll start with what I hope to accomplish, and see if you think that is doable for 700 dollars. Since I am looking to get into youtube and doing some gaming series, I would like to be able to record (with fraps) most games at high settings. This includes Dota 2, Skyrim, Team Fortress 2, and yes, Battlefield 3 (multiplayer). On the latter, I can settle for medium since I realize bf3 is an incredibly demanding game.

So suggest me something that you think is the absolute best value for 700 bucks! smile.gif

Ok so mine is a tad over but 30 bucks more is so worth it. if you cant swing it dump the 7850 for a 6850.

OS costs no more than $80 at the proper Site. $620 budget is huge, a quality build with SSD can be had at good balance. I'll chip in later.

That looks really good, thanks! One question though. Is an i3 really enough to record something like Battlefield 3 multiplayer, even if the graphics are only on medium or so?

Do you know how ancient that hardware is?

Good ol' Schmuck. You have the same link for the case as the OS

The case I chose has a handle on it so it's super awesome for LAN parties.
1TB for all your porn/gaming needs.
ASrock motherboard is great because it's still an ASUS board.
quad core AMD, because it's better than dual core and it's awesome for gaming/recording games.
8 gigs of ram 1600mhz bc it's cheap and has lots of reviews
corsair 500 watt, they have awesome warranty and it's plenty power for this setup.
7850 2gig, you can play everything on ultra.

pick mine bc i just finished my friends setup and he rocks out ultra on BF3/dota 2/ Guild Wars 2/ Borderlands 2. goooood luck

Yes the Ivy i3 will definitly suite your needs. It performs better than AMD quad cores. Here is a link showing how the i3 2100 beat out all of AMD's CPU's in just about all gaming performance. The i3 I recommended to you is around 5% faster than the i3 in those tests as it is a newer gen CPU. Plus staying on the Z77 platform will allow a good upgrade for later if you ever want an i7 or i5. AMD is below your budget IMO you are in Intel territory for your build and the i3 is perfect for it. thumb.gif

Not according to reviews the fx-4100 loses to a dual core sandy bridge, not to mention the Dual core Ivy I reccomended is even more faster. Why do people recommend garbage FX CPU's Phenoms are better if your going AMD

FX4170,with a 4.2GHz stock speed is better than the 2100,and can be overclocked further.
