A flashed non Dell BIOS could cause your pc to not boot, rendering it a big paperweight.. And you will probably lose your warranty if it is a bad flash.. Just my .02

A flashed non Dell? So that means what you said doesn't apply to me?
He means if you flashed BIOS that Dell didn't specifically tell you to flash, you're outta luck.

You should have the AMD drivers installed already, and CCC. Just use CCC / AMD Overdrive. As much as I hate software overclocking, its not worth it to flash your BIOS, as you will likely render your motherboard a paperweight.

What kind of processor is in it already, download a program called CPU-Z and upload a report

the thing is you wanting to unlock and overclock your board correct? The thing is since its an OEM they lock it up so people won't overclock the board as it voids the warranty. They sell the computer so it runs on stock operation, nothing else. Even if you could overclock that board won't support a big overclock anyway since its probably a 3+1 phase board. If you could find out who actually makes that board they might have a utility that will allow you to overclock in Windows and get you a 300MHZ overclock but there is no program for Windows that will let you unlock it.

Basically with your board it will support a 95w AM3 CPU, such as the Athlon II X4 620/640. You can get one for 50 bucks if u are currently running a dual core

http://www.ebay.com/itm/AMD-Athlon-II-X4-620-2-6-GHz-Quad-Core-ADX620WFK42GI-Processor-/280970670948?pt=CPUs&hash=item416b283364

also before you upload the report I am going to guess its running a Phenom II X2 right now correct? You want it to unlock right? Well you can only do that on a board that supports doing that, if u take out ur old board and get another one it will make your Windows 7 invalid as it is married to the board thats in it right now. Dell doesn't let you replace anything except the processor but luckily AMD has quads that are 50 bucks and are excellent for gaming.

Seriously just a get a Athlon X4 620 and u will be fine, then sell the Phenom II X2 on ebay for the same price u paid for the 620.Ive done it many times. Its the best option.

I have the AMD Athlon II X2 250 3.0GHz
I wanted to overclock that and not my motherboard, but I needed it to be unlocked...
So I'm guessing my only option, the "legal" way is to upgrade to a quad?

There are honestly no work arounds or I would tell you. The 710 southbridge in your computer does support core unlocking, but the BIOS has be able to enable that option. The only way is a custom bios and the guys at BIOS-MODS aren't going to make one for you in the next week unless u paid them prob. They get 100's of requests everyday. They might have one eventually, but it might be month/ years from now. If you try to edit a bios file yourself I can almost promise u will mess up your board for good, if one HEX line is off, just one it will not boot.

Just get the 620, its 50 bucks and will double your performance along with Dell being able to keep you under warranty.

also a 250 does not unlock, its a native dual core, Phenom II X2's can unlock to 3 or 4 core processors, but not the Athlon II X2, unless its a 210e
