Do you guys think this might work?

I have the non USB version that came with an old Gateway 24" LCD and it has lots of height adjustment to handle a monitor larger than 24".

Well the 27 is 3 inches in diameter bigger. The stand has about a 4 inch travel height adjustment. It should fit. You just wont be able to adjust the monitor height to the full extent, if any at all.

Got my Shimian and its total height is less than my old Gateway 24" with the soundbar at the bottom. So it should work very well with one of the Gateway VESA monitor stands.

Has anyone identified any videos or pictorials of someone removing the OEM stand from a Shimian?

Did you receive the monitor yet? The stand comes removed and you have to screw it on if you want to use it.
