[STBlog] New Samsung SSD 840 Series, Reviews - Page 23

Maybe if they bought AMD... Oh well

I'm more interested in the TLC technology behind the 840. I wonder how long it will last and if it'll bring about a real change to the price of SSDs. The 840's MSRP isn't much lower than prices for existing MLC SSDs. Perhaps we'll see TLC NAND chips in smartphones to save a few bucks?

I would personally find it impressive if it holds it's life as well as MLC. On the other hand, a whole byte in one cell seems to lend itself to more advanced controlling capabilities, which is likely to be taken advantage of by the secretive Samsung.

Well Samsung certainly does do a good job with their controllers and whatever technologies they're using to extend the endurance of their 830 SSDs.

I opted out for 256gb 830
should be up and running by weeks end
proven reliability and a bigger drive versus 126 pro and unforeseen future possible dilemas

I just got my two 840 Pro 128GB. I will run them in RAID 0 with a 600GB VelociRapter for small storage. Large storage will be on my HTPC/NAS.

I still dont have my mobo, ram, and APU. I am waiting on the mobo and APU to go down in price, both are at $119.99.

Amazon has 840 Pro 128GB on sale for $119.
