I took the relevant part of your post hope you don't mind.

Windows ME is the only operating system I have ever been able to confirm caused massive hardware failures because of software problems and OS bugs. It literally caused a computer that was in perfect working condition for months to die after ME was installed.

I wasn't the only one, many of us who upgraded to ME in my local area had massive hardware failures on systems that ran fine under buggy 98SE. Sure 98SE liked to crash but it didn't cause a system to become so unstable that the hardware failed.

I haven't been reading baloney. What I was saying was in response to Windows 8 hate about how it was a terrible release and may be the worst release of Windows ever. It's not close. Windows ME is by far Microsoft's worst OS release. That was the point I was making. Is that I doubt Windows 8 is going to cause REGULAR, MASSIVE, hardware failures such as ME did.

I apologize that it was misconstrued. I have been running off of 9 hours sleep in 3 days so sometimes my post isn't clearly communicated enough and that was one of those times. Does it seem more clear to you now? If not I will try to re construct my statement again. thumb.gif

Windows ME could be held reliable for certain hardware failure sure. But keep in mind during that time frame all of these hardware checks were not built in. So even virus's existed for burning up peoples computers. Today every CPU and GPU has a thermal diode for reading temperatures. The hardware will shut itself down before any physical damage is ever done.

And, more importantly, can we have a better UI in Windows 9? If it's like W8, then it will be another no-go.

I find this kind of sad. Don't get me wrong, I think it's great that hacks are going to be harder from a gamer standpoint. It's just that I learned a LOT about computers and programming by creating hacks for my favorite games a long time ago (this was back on Win9x and earlier). And it wasn't about trying to win or make a game easier (or harder!), it was purely for the fun of it. If it was as difficult to create hacks as its going to be now I may not have been able to learn as much as I did on my own.

I love this idea! Might have to try to do that myself.
