Gigabyte p965 boards to power on,off,on?

Thread Starter
I wrote an earlier thread asking about this issue I have found on my new PC. I got about 3 replies, and they people seemed to say that it was normal for the P965 Gigabyte boards to initially power on and then go off for 1 second and then power on again and load the OS. Has anyone else had similar experiences? Is it in fact normal?

I have found that when I keep the power plugged in at the mains, that the computer will come on right away when hitting on the on button, but when taken out of the mains it will go through the on off on process. Maybe its checking the power connectivity or something?

Please share and tell me how to fix it? I already update to BIOS version to F7 but it doesn't help.

I think it must be common Transonics mobo does the same thing.

I thought it was the Asus boards that did that but it was fixed in a BIOS update if I heard correctly

As does my P5B-Deluxe.....I really didn't worry about it, because BIOS and windows is stable...maybe it's a wierd chipset thing?

It also does it if I make a big change in BIOS, and then save and exit...it shuts off, waits about a second, and then restarts....

That's a different chipset though right?

And not the P965?

Both quotes taken directly from www.gigabyte.com.tw. FYI If you're not sure if its normal just go to the manufacture's page and look it up.

Q:Is it normal that the system will reboot during its first power on? ( 965P-DS3 and 965P-S3 )

A:For 965P-DS3 and 965P-S3 motherboard, during the first power on after the system is installed, the system will reset the initial BIOS and Chipset parameter based on the system configeration and then reboot the system. The shutdown and reboot after the first power on is normal situation

FAQ

Is it normal that the system will reboot during its first power on after BIOS memory setting changed ? ( 965P-DQ6, 965P-DS4, 965P-DS3,965P-S3 )

For 965P-DQ6、965P-DS4 、965P-DS3、965P-S3 motherboard, if the memory setting is not the chipset spec of 800/ 667/533 MHz in the BIOS setting during system installation, then the system will re-write the initial motherboard parameter when the first boot after BIOS seeting. After the re-write is done, the system will reboot. The shutdown and reboot after the first power on is normal situation.

Does someone be like that?

Before that It turned on normally. After i updated BIOS by @BIOS program.(I have no floppy drive) It turns on, off and on.

I think it will affect to Hard disk , CPU , something else to be break down in the future.

It's just clearing your bios, and re-writing the info, nothing to worry about.

It does it to my MSI board (975x), I can't stand it. It is very hard on your components, but there really isn't much you can do about it.
