Or get the right info from the delidding club. Most people just go okay ill take it off and just cut. theres lots to know on getting it just right.

Because apparently with the fluxless solder the TIM was better not in temps but for the new Ivy srchitecture they tried it with the older and issues popped up all over the place and they then used TIM. its very good TIM actually. but there is a gap between the IHS and the actual die which is the problem with the heat issues. not the TIM in any way at all.

Yup.

Well I would try deliding a cheaper CPU before I went ahead and tried it on a brand new top end cpu.

So what happened? Has anyone actually ever killed their CPU by delidding? Or just scratched it, cried about it, and then dissapeared. Because there's 2 guys in this thread saying they scratched their chip and then never reported if it actually broke anything.

Its a bit of both really. There have been people whi have killed theirs and others who haven't. Its all about the skill of the user of the blade and the time you spend along with the information needed to correctly do this. Take a look at my delidded club and see what you think. Success rates are much higher than people think really.

Dude I can't read through 72 pages x 100 posts frown.gif

I've tried, and I haven't found a single report of someone breaking their cpu and actually seeing if it was broke instead of just giving up or not posting (op will surely deliver..).. I've only found 1 guy, who was just some dummy who actually spilled water on his motherboard, not that his delid failed (i mean it might of, but his failure, with smoke and all... definitely sounds like water instead of delid failure).

I still haven't seen any failed delid reports.

If you're calling me the "dummy" it wasn't water but non-conductive liquid for water cooling which couldn't have caused the smoke up from the processor wink.gif

I thought you weren't in the room ^^

Seriously, I apologize. I've done stupider things trying when being lazy. Well maybe not lol.

A missing pin or messed up CPU shouldn't cause any smoke to come up, I mean people test broken pins on sockets/chips all the time. Meanwhile, it's pretty common for smoke and disasters to occur when there's liquid in the dimms, especially on intel, as there's that weird voltage-in-the-ram-affects-voltage-in-the-cpu thing going on.

I'd still try testing that CPU if you had a motherboard that wasn't blown. I mean I really wish you would, or did, and I'd love to hear the results of that...

I haven't really heard of anyone screwing up a delid yet. I think a few scratched PCBs but I'm not sure if those CPUs even died, people just assumed they were dead and never tested them (as far as I've read).

When I delid I'm planning note even to cut, just stick it in, stick it out. Stick it in, stick it out... planning to get one next week and not even going to try it out before delidding it (i'll probably have time as parts come in the mail, im not going to commit to buying it until my current build sells).

I made my first 3570k only run in single channel memory mode w/ a failed delid I took one small piece of the pcb off and boom damaged. Some other people on these forums have had failed delid also you must not be around alot.

I have said it before I believe it is easy I have big hands and have already done 4 3770k delids to date and everyone of them was flawless besides the fact of the first one didn't use liquid ultra, which is a huge mistake. Anyway the only trick is going very slow, and making sure the blade is level with pcb or slight pointed away. Also you should always test the chip first to see where you can get it without delid take a screen shot and than if your still going to delid, heat it up using IBT for as long as you can wait lol. than take it out and delid it will be way easier because the glue is softer. and before you delid order liquid pro, or ulra.
