1080p gaming on a 1200p monitor

Thread Starter
I've been looking at 1200p monitors since I want the 16:10 AR, but I don't really want to play at that resolution. I've been using Big Picture Mode a lot and having to reset my res every time I feel like playing a game on my TV is kind of annoying.

So, if I were to get a 1920x1200 monitor and set games to 1920x1080, would there be black bars at the top and bottom or would it stretch to fill? I would prefer it if it gave me bars on the top and bottom, but since I don't know myself I can't test it out. Help?

It should put black bars around it. If I use a different aspect ratio it'll give me bars on GTA IV. It may be game dependent, though.

What you want to get is a 1920x1200 monitor that has a 1:1 pixel mapping mode. That way the you can send the same 1920x1080 signal to either your TV or your monitor, and the monitor will do the letterboxing. Set all your games to 1920x1080 and leave the desktop at 1920x1200.

What is 'big picture mode' - some glorified Win+P function?

If you want more pixels than 1920x1080 then buy 27" 2560x1440. Gaming is just getting more and more 16:9 for every year now.
