Getting music from my PC to my receiver - Best software ?

Hi all,

I have a Yamaha RX-A2010 receiver, and Windows 7 machines all networked via a homegroup. All of which can see each other fine.

My main PC has all my music on it, and i want to be able to stream that to the Yamaha's PC input of my receiver. (preferably so that all my album's and playlists are seen via the Yamaha iOS app) Now my receiver can see my pc and vice versa, it doesnt' seem to want to stream anything to it, even though my music folder is shared to the homegroup. I click on music folder on my PC from the GUI on the Yamaha, and there's nothing in it to click play on.

I'm told that I need some additional software on my PC, such as Twonky.

What is the best software to use so that i can goto my reciever's PC input, and see all of my music, be it, FLAC, Apple Lossless or even just good ol' MP3.

Thanks in advance.

Make sure you have streaming enabled in Windows Media Player.

Make sure you have your firewall set to allow WMP to talk on the network.

Thanks, i have all that set. But still not joy. Firewall is set to home/work (private) on both WMP & WMP Network Sharing Service. It see's the name of the comp, but when i click on it, it doesn't start showing my library like I hope it would.

I've even gone into Customized on the streaming on WMP , under my RX-A2010 and chosen, make all of my media availible to this device.

But still no joy.

Any idea's ?

Do you have another Windows PC on the network that you can test the DLNA client/server against? If another Windows PC can't browse the server, then there's still something blocking it. It could be a 3rd party firewall or anti-virus/anti-malware software. It could be (though unlikely) an inter-connection filter of your router/switch.

Make sure you try shutting off your DLNA sharing in WMP, rebooting, and re-enabling it in case the issue is a Microsoftism. Also, make sure that the WMP library shows all of your music.

I have an RX-V673 and I have it connected to my network via ethernet and it sees both my NAS and my sig rig. I have never tried to play anything off my PC but it plays them fine right off my NAS which is connected to my router. My PC shows up in the list but never tried it because I keep all my music on the NAS.
