Azza Genesis 9000B Cooling

Hey everyone,

I just have a couple of questions about optimizing air flow in my case.

I have currently 2x 200mm top fans, 2x 140mm bottom fans, 2x 120mm side fans, and my 2 Cougar 120mm PWM fans on my Antec Kuhler 920.

What I am thinking of doing...

1.) Taking out the current 200mm fans, and placing 4x 120mm Cougar fans up top with 2 different higher cfm 200mm fans. giving me 6 fans top.

2.) Taking out the crappy 140mm fans that came stock in the bottom and replacing them with better 140's or 120's.

3.) Replacing the 2 side fans, adding 2 more side fans on the opposite side as well, giving me push/pull through my HDD area.

4.) Adding another 200/230mm fan to the side of my case. (Which blows over most of my motherboard.

5.) Buying 2x 5.25x3 Bay enclosures with 120mm fans on them, then replacing those fans with better CFM fans.

6.) Adding a fan controller, and running PWM Y splitters to control all my fans from the front.

NOW:

Is this completely overkill or a good investment?

Cost:
3x200mm fans: 55
11x120mm fans: 96
Fan Controller: 60
3xBay to fan converters: 60

So just under 300$ when everything is said and done.

As a fellow 9000b owner, intending to do a w/c build, I agree with all of your choices, but wonder about #5 - I've been wondering if I can place fans in the front. This is my 2nd case without front fans, the other being a Silverstone TJ-04 - side fan placement for hd bay cooling.

Anyways, no - its not overkill. The Azza Genesis is a behemoth case, and yah - those bottom fans at first, were vibrating on my case. Theres a ton of fans better suited for case cooling - the Cougars are excellent - I also have a Cougar Evolution case with 4 additional Cougar fans.

Not sure about 4 x 120mm fans up top in addition to 2 x 200mm fans .... would they even fit ?

If you have crossblowing = intake - fans on both sides at the front, plus 2 intake fans at the front , thats a lot of turbulence, I would think. You might be better off without the front fans, and let the side fans run in a push pull setup - intake 1 side, exhaust the other.

Your mobo layout - is it on the right side or the reverse - left - side ? If reverse, your gpu is up at the top, near the top exhaust fans. I'd stick with the Cougars up top, but not sure about 4 fans. Sounds like a lot, and again, turbulence, maybe. I know that top fans are more than likely to be exhaust - but there is Silverstone that practices top intake fans, such as on my TJ-04. Only they say it makes sense to have one fan in the top middle, but that's when the cpu is at top in a normal mobo layout. A 2nd top intake fan at the rear would conflict with the rear exhaust fan. But I run 2 top intake fans on my TJ-04 and with a Noctua NH-D14 cooler, with a 120mm rear exhaust fan.

So you would have 4 x 120mm crossflow hd bay fans at the front, you would have 2 x 140mm intake fans at bottom, and upto 4 x 120mm fans exhausting at the top, plus the rear exhaust fan. Hmm... yah, I see your point, its hard not to want to put in front fans. I'd say go for it, you can always take out, say the crossflow fans, and see how each setup works. And if you can afford the $300, fugedabout it, the cost is what gets you in the door, and I wish you luck with your build. thumb.gif

There's an Azza club in here somewhere, I should sign up, you too wink.gif
