Also, there is very little difference between 8X/8X and 16X/16X. Unless you're an frame freak who can distinguish between 125 FPS and 130 FPS, the difference only comes into play at higher resolutions/multi-monitor setups.

Example: Scaling with HD 7970 and GTX 680 with PCI-E 2.0 vs PCI-E 3.0

His 480s are pci-e 2.0.

would buy it if i had an ivy.
sell your thuban and your 480s while you wait for your f.a.
get a 670/680 and scrap the phyx card idea

upgrading to the 6xx and you wont 'need' more than 2-way sli for a couple few years

The gigabyte is pretty nice, plan on selling the 1090 but keeping the 480s as I just bought em in march and I really can't put anymore into my budget then already allowed

youre monitor is 1080p. 120 or 60hz? 60hz 1 670/680 is plenty.
you can sell both 480s and the 275 and your x6 combined with the $600 youre willing to spend and you have more than enough for either a 670 or 680 plus the intel PLUS the motherboard you want. no excuse to be limited by your 480s.

Its only 60hz. Don't have the 275 on hand, trying to get it back but that's another story altogether. I don't mind keeping the 480s since together they beat a 680, 680 sure would be nice though and was what I originally set out to get when I upgraded but wasn't sure how long the deal on the 480s was going to last at the time. I would easily sell the cards plus the cpu for enough to buy a 680 though.

Just sold the 1090T and the 480s for a total of $430 before the paypal fees, not too shabby. Shipping all those off today. Just have to decide on which Intel to stick in my cart while I play the waiting game now. And since my 480s were better than a single 680 I was thinking of going for two 670s this time around, any input? I will only be using one monitor, yes unfortunately 60hz (which may change in the not too distant future), and I do love being able to max games out. I'm thinking 670s because the gap between those and the 680s doesn't seem to be too justifiable for the price, right? Kinda digging on that Asus Rampage IV Gene.

Honestly, if bf3 is the most demanding game (dunno really) 1 670 is plenty. Ultra with no hbao/ssao/whatever and no blur i stay locked at 60fps. I also dont play 64 man servers and have a great overclocker.
I only said 680 because its the top single gpu card. If nvidia keeps locking voltage in the future which some say is definite, this is the last nvidia i recommend.

The GENE is a good board, should upload some pics when it's done. :D

I don't do multiplayer, so that's not an issue for me. But I do want to be maxxing games for quite awhile
