Borderlands 2 Fails To Cross Over
September 18, 2012, 12:00 PM ET
Quote:
Ask me what I think about Borderlands 2 from Gearbox Software, and I’d tell you about its dubious, convoluted plot. I’d talk about a mind-boggling array of guns and loot. At no point, though, would I ever say I was ready to “joy puke” my face off, as the game box predicts players will do.

Borderlands 2’s single-player campaign mode isn’t as good as what you’ll find in games like COD: Black Ops or the Medal of Honor series. There’s too much “feast-or-famine” hunting for tasks, supplies and a good battle for this to be a fun game all the way through.

The game isn’t manga-like enough to be super-hip, so instead, it just feels cartoonish.

Controls are very similar to COD, which makes the game very familiar and easy to play right out of the box.

As a $30 impulse buy, priced about the same as games like “NASCAR Unleashed,” I wouldn’t have a problem recommending Borderlands 2 as a fun diversion. At twice that price, though, I think it’s fair for players to demand the whole magilla... scads of downloadable content... and online multiplayer modes that keep you and your friends coming back until the next version of the game comes out.

This is rubbish! mad.gif

How the hell could he write for WSJ gaming section when he didn't even know a thing about this game? thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif

This guy has no idea what he is talking about. The game is great. How can you compare this to the linearity of a FPS like BF3 or Call Of Duty?

Its obvious from his article that he is a FPS fanboy, so he could never get into a shooter/rpg.

Yea.... your typical CoD gamer:
Quote:
scads of downloadable content, a rich social media/community experience, sharing of loot and gear and online multiplayer modes that keep you and your friends coming back until the next version of the game comes out.

He makes it sound like BL3 will be out next September, or that it should be.

/edit

Check out the comments. Very lulz worthy.

This was a well written, very in depth article about a guy who writes about video games who doesn't know about video games, writing an article about a video game he doesn't know much about.

I read this on their website and just started laughing. Personally, if I was Randy and the rest of Gearbox I would have a giant banner of this guys article made and have it hung in the office where everyone can see.

Borderlands 2 is an amazing game and executes on so many levels, I wasn't a big fan of Borderlands 1, but I had faith and am so glad I purchased Borderlands 2. I have laughed so many times playing this game, the writing is just hilarious. The gameplay is ultra smooth, the loot is great, all around one of the rare must have games.

Obviously Adam, the writer of the article, is looking for something the game isn't. He is wanting a hardcore FPS, another re-run of CoD or MW, the games that the publishers keep releasing with minor visual tweaks and a new box. He can't handle the fact that something new and refreshing has come, it is just too much for him.

EDIT: Just started reading the comments, the guy is taking a thrashing and there is some pure comedy gold in them as well!

How to be a successful video game reviewer.

1. Find a popular video game that came out recently.
2. Write a controversial review that doesn't align with what the majority of the community thinks.
3. Watch the people flood to flame your article, giving you desired traffic.

Noob is seriously the worst insult ever.. xD

The review seemed completely sensible to me. Fetch-it missions and loot aren't exactly the things you expect when you buy a shooter. He said he would recomend the game at a 30$ price tag. He expected more production out of a game that cost 60$, and i'd have to agree the presentation is kind of cartoonish.
