Anyone know if it's possible to use the stand from a U2311H with a different VESA compatible monitor? It looks like something like this may be able to fit over the metal plate that fits in the stand and allow me to mount a 100x100 VESA monitor. Main reason I ask is because I just got a great deal on a 22" LG IPS226V-PN that I'd like to run in portrait mode and the Ultrasharp stand is the only one I have that supports rotation (other monitors are on a dual arm stand). I'd rather not buy a whole new stand if there's a cheaper way to modify the stand I already have.

Dell Ultrasharp stand with VESA monitor

Hi,
Dell uses its own quick release clip-in mechanism.
They sell an adapter plate for standard VESA monitors:
P/N: 330-2200
http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&sku=330-2200
The adjustment mechanism is spring-loaded for the weight of the monitor it is designed to support.
This means that a LED stand will not support a heavy CCFL monitor (the weight tilts it fully downwards) and a CCFL stand would cause a lightweight LED panel to tilt fully upwards and be raised to full height.

Thanks for the info on the stand construction. I hadn't considered the difference between CCFL and LED displays with the spring mechanism Dell uses. The weight of the LG panel may be an issue since it is a LED display. Having it at full height shouldn't be a problem due to the height of my other monitors and since I do want to run it in portrait mode, but I could see the tilt being an issue. It doesn't look like Dell sells it online anymore so I can call them up and see what their pricing is for the part. It may work out to be easier in terms of cost and setup just to buy a new stand.
