two days ago i decided to buy h100 and give it a try over my nh-d14. while i was installing it i think i must have used too much force, the thumb screw broke off as well as eating up another part of the double sided screw that goes inside the h100 backplate. so here i was left without a working h100 on the day i bought it.. and i decided to make my own mount rather then wait for corsair replacement to arrive.
went down to bunnings and as usual they did not have any parts i was after except for the compression springs. i went to bolts and nuts shop and picked up the following
stainless steel
4x 40mm 4m bolts
4x 4m flat steel washers
8x 5/32 flat steel washers (chosen for its bigger outer diameter to support the width of the springs but inside circle most closely matches the 4m bolts)
8x 4m nuts
4x 4m lock washers
8x 4m nylon washers
4x wing nuts
2x 50mm compression springs
unfortunately i had to use h100 backplate, which feels really weak and cheap as do the rest of the h100 parts lol. If anyone knows where i could order a decent backplate for waterblocks in australia or if they ship it here let me know please.
remove the female screws and black rubber washers from h100 plate. and follow this guide
1st Bolt -> backplate -> nylon washer -> motherboard -> nylon Washer -> flat steel washer -> lock washer -> nut. keep tightening the nut until bolt/screw at the back of the motherboard stops spinning. that's why we use a lock washer
2nd h100 block/pump -> 5/32 flat steel washers -> spring -> 5/32 flat steel washers -> nut
originally i opted out to use a wing-nut for my final closure and compression control but i was unable to use it since 40mm bolts ended up being too short and having my wing-nut touch the h100 block/pump with its wings i was unable to do anything but opt out for regular nuts. If you chose to go with 65mm+ bolts and longer springs i am sure you could use the wing-nuts to reach the desired amount of pressure before they touch pump/block.
i have no pictures of my work in progress since i was too busy doing it but i am able to take photos of final work and materials used if anyone wants to know.
If you know where i can buy decent backplates to replace my h100 let me know please. i don't think i will even use corsair original once it arrives.
