Only game to give me issues is Crysis 2 and well we all know how horribly optimized that game is and that hidden details drag system performance down.
I am not arguing that an i5 or i3 would be a better choice with that graphics card or not, just saying that the A10 should be fine to handle most games at a good FPS.

Try playing BC2 or BF3 with a C2Quad(two C2Duos inside) and you'll get a ton of stutter(I have one). You can't even get 99% GPU usage out of a single 460(Fermi needs Nehalem and above for BC2). Try using fraps while playing: impossible to play smoothly. Do the same on a Nehalem and it's like night and day. Then when you remember we're two generations above it at IB and you realize just how bad C2Duo is.

Wrong. I was in the Beta for BF3 and had no issues. Couldn't max it out but with a little adjusting the game ran and looked amazing. Also I have run Fraps while gaming : WoW, LoL, AC : Brotherhood, SC2. Video was recorded at 1080p @ 50-60 fps and the games still remained playable and smooth. I am not saying it is ideal. Yes a quad could handle it a lot better, but by no means is a C2D innadequate. I get zero (noticeable) microstutter as well. Yes my chip is aging but is in no dire need of being replaced.

There's obviously something terribly wrong with your system.

I played BC2 maxed out with absolutely no issues (multiplayer) back on the days when I had the Opteron 1214 (basically an Athlon X2 4400+ with 1MB L2) clocked at 2.8GHz, paired with a HD5870 1GB. Yeah, 4XAA too. Frames were hovering the mid 40s the whole time, no noticeable stutters nor slowdowns.

Now you tell me GTAIV, well yes, it is a whole different story. That bastard NEEDS four powerful cores tongue.gif

If an i3-2330M can handle most of the games right off the bat with no issues, I don't see this APU being a bottleneck to anything. Sure, performance won't be as stellar as it would on an i7, but then again you wouldn't have an iGPU of the performance level the A10 has, and the processor alone would cost nearly three times more.

MSI clearly wanted to pull the only affordable, HD7970M equipped notebook in the whole market, and they did it, and rather well I may add.

An Athlon II x4 can run BF3 just fine... It sounds like end-user issues rather than an inherent problem between the game and the hardware.

how does this stack up compared to the asus g55/g75 in terms of gaming? power consumption is nice, but i don't think it's that critical- given that most people would probably plug in their laptops either way during an intense gaming session.

People are acting like MSI doesn't offer an i7 equivalent, lol

I don't think you understand. It's not simply how many cores there are, it's the architecture itself that matters. The Kentsfield/Yorkfield architecture does poorly with BC2 and running fraps. A QX9650 @ 4Ghz does poorly because it stutters and can not max out GPU usage on Fermi. Go to the Nvidia section or visit the Nvidia forums on Guru3d and go back a year or so of postings to read up on the well known low gpu usage problems with Fermi and C2Quad systems that was also acknowledged by Nvidia devs who promised(but failed) to address the issue eventually. Do not compare a Fermi to a 5870 either, as they behave very differently. That is an invalid analogy.

An i3-2330M has a different architecture than C2Quad(simply two C2duos slapped together). Running fraps on a C2Quad system uses much more CPU than on a Nehalem chip. Changes in the in the micro-architecture such as out-of-order execution, among others, make big differences in how applications perform.

Can not.

anyone know if AMD can switch between integrated and discrete graphics like Nvidia can?
