[Newegg] ACER 235GDHZ (120Hz) $199 NEW - Page 3

This monitor is a piece of crap. I used to own it and it suffered from backlight bleeding, very low brightness (bad for 3D) and horrible ghosting in 3D unless you apply tweaks (overdrive and stuff) which would disappear every time you turn off and on your monitor, which is a real pain because in order to do it u need to hold down a button to get into service mode every time... If you buy it, buy it for the 120Hz and not for 3D. It's an early generation 3D monitor with bad ghosting and dated TN panel.

Nope, that happens on every monitor. That picture wasn't even from my display but I did see the same thing on my display. Google this monitor, you'll see other people complaining about the same issues.

Thats a 60hz passive 3d display. It has its own set of pros and cons. The 3d will offer less ghosting but at half resolution. In 2d its only 60hz but should have better image quality.

Are you referring to the overdrive problem? Can't you just disable that?

That one doesn't appear to be 120hz.

Suppose I'll add my two cents. I had one of these Acer. The right half of the monitor was noticeably darker than the left, which drove me nuts. Furthermore, it had an extremely loud buzz. It's a steal at $200 if you get a good one, but from the sound of it, you're more likely to get a bad one.

The image quality still looked off with overdrive disabled. Better but not still not acceptable for me.

if only benq would release one a new 120hz without the ergonomics and screen resizing and weird controller crap I don't need. One day a 120hz monitor without massive issues will his my price range :/

You'll see it with the black on white too. Between that and the input lag I found this monitor to be unacceptable. Contrast is pretty bad too.
In 3d vision this display ghosts a lot and is very dark compared to something like that Planar SA2311w which is a 3d vision 1 display.
Here is the run down on how I felt with this display.
1) Due to the input lag it doesn't feel any more responsive than a good 60hz display.
2) Due to the overdrive artifacts it doesn't look any more crisp in motion than a good 60hz display.
3) Its not even a good 3d vision display.
4) The contrast is pretty bad. Dark scenes in any game will look pretty bad.
The only redeeming aspect of this display is that its a cheap way to try 3d vision. I still think that all of the other drawbacks make it unacceptable for long term use for me. I've had some monitors with quirks but I have never gotten rid of a display so quickly. I found the overall image quality on my old I-inc 28" to be better and that is saying something. I also found it to be more responsive.

I spent some time on this monitor today and it doesn't look anything like your pic. It looks crisp, clear, shrugs. I dunno, you see what you see, but it looks fine here.

Great, you got a bad batch of the monitor and didn't bother to try and have it repaired or replacedd. Keep sitting in this thread and bashing the monitor for absolutely no reason.

Move on dude. There are satisfied customers with this monitor including myself, we get it, you don't like the monitor.
I personally can't say anything about the 3D Vision because I bought the monitor for 120Hz and can care less about the 3D.
