RE: Is it really that bad? (Bulldozer)

The 8150 destroys Intel at integer math, but imo the lack of fpu units, cache latency, resource sharing and imc are holding that cpu back. All of those things are probably gonna be fixed, but it makes the cpu undesirable to many.

Some "oh you'll be fine rocking metro 2033 dx11 at 120fps biggrin.gif" would be nice xD

at what resolution ?
60fps would be better start.

If latency was SO bad then Core 2 duo would suck because it has about the same Latency as FX does in L2 cache. :|

You didn't waste your money unless you paid overprice.Phenom II has higher performance per GHz,but FX clocks higher. You will not see a decrease with it clocked high, and you will see an improvement in multi-threaded games, and as time goes by it will perform even better as new games will be optimized for more cores,no doubt about it.Your current CPU will be good for years to come.

Should've waited til October 23 for Piledriver. The FX-8350 supposedly beats i7-2600K in 3dsmax/V-ray (a real world app).

IIRC someone wrote: "if your apps use integer math, AMD Bulldozer is [marginally, like 10-15%] better than Intel and if you don't know what integer math is you likely aren't using it".

In games/single thread Intel and Phenom look better than Bulldozer.

As far as integer math, apps like MATLAB use floating point as far as I know. (http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/fx-power-consumption-efficiency,3060-10.html)

Wow the 8150 doesnt seem to bottleneck a 680 in most games. you think i could crossfire 7870's without any bottlenecks? thanks that link really made me calm about the whole situation biggrin.gif
