Most people who say BD is crap haven't even used it so what do they know and who are they to say anything about a cpu they never even used?

Yes but the fact that the cpu is has to be clocked at 4.3-4.4 to be the same as my broken cpu is kind of dissapointing. and idk if my CoolIT vantage pushpull intake config will be able to cool it enough for an overclock that high (4.8) im not saying the cpu is crap but is there any reason i should not send this cpu back and buy a phenom from ebay or something? i heard certain games (especially dx11 games) benefit from even 8 cores not sure though.

Fact is whether it be PH II, BD, or i7, you will not notice a difference in gaming unless you have a 120hz monitor. Up to you to keep it or not, but unless you use it yourself, how are you really going to know?

Depends on the chip die, not all chips can clock that high. But that said you should be able to get at least 4.0Ghz with lower than stock voltages and it makes a big difference.

Maybe it was 10% higher, but either way BD chips overclock nicely with low voltages, so it isn't like it requires 1.5 like some Phenom chips do to reach 4.0Ghz. BD is much easier to overclock.

But yeah, you won't notice any different in gaming. OC BD really shows an increase in single threaded, starting up programs, archives etc.

Either way its a fun chip to OC, I prefer them over Phenoms regardless of the benchmarks.

If it were me, I'd send the FX back for a refund. Either wait for the newer Piledriver core FX CPUs which ship in late October or just get a 955 or 965 and OC it.

Remember that the Bulldozers say they have 8 cores but really they have 4 full cores and 4 kind of gimped cores due their "module" design. I believe this will be unchanged with Piledriver as well.

Bulldozer should have better performance on Windows 8. Rather than put out a patch to make it work really well with 7, they are just going to optimize 8 from the start.
its not a bad cpu. it just doesn't live up to the hype that amd led us to believe. if they would have just said it was going to be a 8 core cpu i think it would have done much better with the press. but its the fact that they advertised it to be a intel i7 killer.

Yeah. Ever since Intel came out with the core 2 Quad by just combining 2 dual core chips, AMD has lagged behind. AMD always said that they were doing things the right way, by creating a TRUE quad core processor, and that the performance would be better, but have continued to dissapoint. Phenom was a joke, coming 14 months after the Core 2 Quad and not being as fast. At the same time AMD was finally releasing the Phenom, Intel was just releasing the second gen Core 2 Quad with the new 45 nm process size. And it has continued like this since that time.

Bulldozer isn't a bad chip, it is just the Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge as so much better. Bulldozer needs the OS optimizations (which will be available mostly for Windows 8, sadly) to have a fair game, because without them Bulldozer can't even really overcome first gen Core i7 on the 1366 platform.
