If you overclock to 4.8Ghz

you will lose 0.05 points single thread Cinebench 11.5
you will gain 1.00 points multi-thread Cinebench 11.5

compared to your 1055t @ 4.1Ghz. If you often have your system run idle, your power bill will be a little less due to bulldozers power gating.

No, you won't notice 0.05 points, lol.

I upgraded from a 1055T @ 4.0Ghz to an FX-8120 @ 4.8Ghz and the only differences I notice are render times and the logo in CPUZ.

The cool thing is my Bulldozer only cost me $9 total after I sold my 1055T.

Most of my games run at 30fps sometimes drops to 25, and I don't see any lag.

My older games can run at 90 fps, but I can't see any difference. The only lag I can see is below 25, above that everything is smooth (I run BF3, can't notice any difference as long as the fps is above 30).

FX, Intel, Phenom, it isn't going to make a difference in gaming. It runs, it does its thing. Go for whatever is cheapest.

I used to run BF3 with an Atnlon ii x3 and a HD 4870 at 1440x900 resolution, no frame drops, was fine.

Basically the only time you will notice differences is if you do video rendering, high requiring tasks like VPN, encoding etc etc.

Surfing, office work and gaming needs as little as a quad core. Unless you are an enthusiast and love to see the performance in numbers and speed, regardless of what you use it for, then you'll find a Phenom, FX, Intel will all feel the same. The differences will be minimal.

I think your more likely to notice a slower processor than a fast processor. A intel i7 is the quickest on the market, but will you notice it than an FX-8120 in gaming, probably not. If the FX-8120 can hold up and not bottleneck your card, and can average fps at 60+ (Many people see that has the average, I think 30 is fine) then you got yourself a good deal and it's doing exactly what you want at the pace you want it at.

Its all numbers and pictures in benchmarks, but in the real world, theres little difference. Like I said, you'll notice the difference more if you ran a Sempron vs an FX, than an FX vs an i5.

-snip-

You know, its funny. When I had my Phenom II at 3.85GHz and 2.75GHz NB....I said the same EXACT thing. My games play just fine at 30 FPS, they're smooth...its all good. I upgraded to Sandy, and the difference was quite literally night and day on almost every game I play, even with the CPU at stock.

This was with the same GPU's (HD4890 and / or GTX 470, I had both). Nothing else in my system had changed other than RAM, motherboard, and processor upgrade. And absolutely EVERY game I play was a night and day difference and went from stutter fest at 30 FPS to butter smooth. (Stutter fest...now that I look back on it and try to play on a similar system today).

Most of my games, I was actually maxing out just fine and holding 60+ average frames...but the MINIMUM frame rates, those are what made the difference. With the Phenom, my minimums were lower, and I was hitting those minimums more often. With the i5, the minimums were usually double what they were before, which made for an overall smoother experience.

On topic:
Bulldozer isn't a bad chip, its just not the Sandy Bridge killer like the hype made it out to be. It's not even a Nehalem killer even, which made that blow even worse. It's still a solid chip so long as you know what it is. The FX81x0 chips perform on par with the i5's in gaming and ALMOST on par with i7's in rendering (Sandy at stock, Bulldozer overclocked). The FX61x0 and 41x0 chips are on par roughly with i3's. And that's fine. They're all decent enough CPU's.

Would I personally recommend somebody to buy a brand new Bulldozer build? Nope, probably not.....not if I could find them a good Sandy / Ivy setup for the same price (usually you can). Only way I would, would be if they're heavy into rendering, and not so much into gaming....and on a budget. Or if they were on a tight enough budget the K model Sandy / Ivy chips are unreachable.

My personal 2 cents. 2cents.gif

i upgraded from a Phenom II x3 in an asus m4a79t-D ATx mobo, top notch when i built it in 09, my first real rig, with 2 HD 4670s, only played Mmos and a little Mw2 on it. i now have whats in my sig, and noticed a Huge difference, but i went from a 3 core cpu not Ocd at all, to this 8 core with an H-100 and maxed it out, i do very little video editing and other things, and it runs great, and my electric bill didnt budge, so im happy with it. i got this upgrade this past march or so. along with an upgrade to an HD 7850 from my 5770 i had, i play LoL, DOTA2, WoW, and some steam games, play mostly max graphics and i don't have issues recording or anything, and i can render a video in sony vegas that's 30-45 minutes, in about that time. not sure if its supposed to be faster, but im an ammature YouTube-er
