For about a month I was tryng to decide between the Iphone 5 and the S3. Which did I go for? The S3.

Here's the deal :
IOS is very simplified. Personal opinion? It bores me.
Android is much more open source. I love my modded OS.
The S3 feels like....****. If it's out of my otterbox, I get really afraid it's going to break.
The Iphone 5 feels durable and firm. If I dropped it I wouldn't worry TOO much.
The Iphone 5 is tiny compared to the S3. I would never get a phone below 5".
The S3 is BIG. It can be a pain in the a** if you wear skinny jeans.

Im 100% satisfied with my purchase and would never go back. But that is just me.

I lulled at the beginning of this thread. The first 5 pages were so off topic, and then some Mac fanboy jumped in and tried to justify Apple's prices (denying all the evidence that was destroying him). Now don't get me wrong, apple is great, but their prices could use some tweaking.

What makes the iPhone line what it is is the simplistic nature on how you operate it. A lot been said about the Android & how good it is. Last year I was actually looking into buying the Samsung Galaxy S3 or the HTC One. Both look cool (though not as sturdy as the iPhone 5). They're also cheaper & with cheaper calling plans. The problem is - I just find the Android OS complicated for my taste. It took me more than 30 minutes of testing & testing both Samsung & HTC smartphones before I finally decided that I still like the iPhone 5 (64 Gb) a lot better. I don't think I'm going to upgrade to the next iPhone 5S when it comes out later this year but my next upgrade in the future probably would not be another iPhone not because the iPhone it's not that good anymore but mainly because it's becoming too expensive.

What ultimately will kill the iPhone is the cost of getting it. So far, I think it's still the best smartphone to get if you don't consider the cost of getting it.

This thread is funny.

People say iPhone sucks cause it's more expensive......they are both 199 when you upgrade or sign up.

People quote videos showing the s3 outperforming the 5 yet there are just as many videos showing the opposite.

People say lack of customization. Yet with a jailbreak the 5 can do everything s3 does except over-clock.

Android is far from optimized compared to iOS, and iOS has other faults that android doesn't.

They both have give and takes. I preference iOS simply because it screams pro quality, and stability.

And as far as ethics go apple is not the only company that uses manufactures in china that don't regulate healthy working conditions well. It's almost impossible to buy a tablet or phone that is not made by slave labor.

So lets all agree both devices are awesome, and put the hate where it's deserved.....apples laptops and desktops. rolleyes.gif

Not everyone purchases their devices on contract and that's where the iPhone 5 is several hundred more than the s3

True but most people do buy their phones with contract. If they don't odds are they can afford either option.

Also, iDevices hold their value far better. I see iphone 4 going for around 250-300 bucks still while the s1 is like 50 bucks maybe 100.

I bought my iphone 5 knowing when I'm ready to upgrade it will still pull me a few hundred bucks.

Plus as I said before galaxy is a great phone but the quality is no where near the iPhone hence why it costs more. Ill gladly pay more for higher build quality and stable OS.

If there is an IDevice with a 4.7-5" screen I wouldn't be using this Galaxy right now. Much rather have the 5's GPU & I have a massive Itune library from my Ipod days.

Agree 100% both phones have their short comings and this is a major one for apple.

While the screen is fine for me, I do wish it was a tad wider. I hope apple will correct this on the iPhone 5s. I don't need something as huge as the droid DNA I think super high res on phones is less than useless. But a little more would be awesome.

I purchased a 16 Gb iPhone 5 for my son & also upgraded my iPhone 4 to 64 Gb iPhone 5 last October & it costs me $199 for the 16 Gb & $399 for the 64 Gb iPhone 5. Even though mine's an upgrade I was not able to retain my old phone number. I was told also that they don't offer unlimited service anymore. I was told to get an addon 4G LTE service at 6 Gb of max data plan allowance/month with an overage of $15/Gb. I was thinking of getting a 64 Gb unlocked iPhone with no calling plan but at that time it cost $1,500 purchase outside. I'm paying more than $200 monthly for the 2 new iPhone 5s & an older iPhone 4 for my wife. My next upgrade after my iPhone 5 family calling plan contract ends will not me another iPhone. I'm done with iPhone not because it's no good but it's just too expensive.

I agree the price per storage is ridiculous. However your data plan is a verizon problem not an iphone problem. Doesn't matter what phone you had you would still be paying that much a month for that much data.

Like I said it does have its problems, but android has major flaws as well. I see very legit complaints from both camps. I just hate it when people say apple is horrid and android is superior. IMO they both great.

Since we are on the subject it's a strong rumor going around about a budget iphone coming out next gen......not sure how I feel about that.
