9Gb ram on Macbook White 2010?

So as I was putting some ram on a friend's macbook, it read it as 9Gb. Is this suppose to be normal?
Would anything go wrong here? I think I read somewhere that the maximum it should be is at 8Gb

What I used was the
- Macbook White Unibody, 2010
- 1Gb Ram(Stock)
- 8Gb Ram from Kingston. DDR3-1333

You should just get rid of the 1gb stick and leave in the kingston 8gb

The macbook wouldn't read it with just the 8gb stick. I think it's got something to do with the Macbook not being able to handle 1333

What was the stock RAM? I assume it was a 1GB stick too.
In that case two sticks would yeild better performance.. You might be better off getting another 8GB stick to match. Two 4GB sticks would have made more sense here. rolleyes.gif

Well, from the original 2Gb ram, I think that 8/9Gb ram would be a bigger improvement as compared to having matching pairs of ram. biggrin.gif Lion and Mountain Lion seem to be more Ram-hungry as compared to SL...

Yeah I know, what I meant was you should have gotten two 4GB sticks to make 8GB total
