Best cheap "backup" mouse?

I've had terrible luck with hardware recently, and am not wanting to be left in a position where I don't have a working mouse for whatever reason. Just wondering if anyone had recommendations for a cheap "backup" mouse to keep around?

I used to have an old Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical, but it's only 400 DPI and seems to have gone missing during my last house move.

I'd need at least 800 DPI, and it would be great if the mouse had a hardware option to poll at 500-1000Hz without installing drivers. Needs to have a "good" sensor - no acceleration, prediction/angle snapping. Most importantly it has to be cheap. I'm hoping that I will never have to even use the mouse, so why spend a lot of money?

Razer's Abyssus seemed like a good option, but:
  1. I doubt most people would consider Razer hardware reliable.
  2. While it's $20 or so in the states, it's about $45 here. $20 is more what I'm thinking when I say cheap.

And it can't be a Logitech product. After recent experiences with their hardware, I'm never giving them money again.

The razer abyssus is the only choice that fits the demands you are listing.

I don't know where this ridiculous rumor that razer's gear is bad quality comes from. The mice they make has the same sensors and switches and factory chords as any other similar competitor. **** happens, that's not the brand's fault.

I've had an abyssus for about two years now, it's worked just fine for me for the time I've had it and doesn't show a hint of wear. For $20 shipped I can't recommend it strongly enough.

edit: you can get the abyssus for $20 including shipping to anywhere in the world. Check ebay or aliexpress.

It’s based on my own experience of Razer mouse failures in the past actually. But you’re right, the Abyssus looks like the only real option, and I was able to get one for $18 off eBay, so it’s perfect as a backup. (For some reason that price didn't show on Google’s price search)

I alway seem to have problems with the left click malfunctioning, but this will not be a heavy use mouse so I am sure it will be fine for that. As for using the same switches, where they are placed, how they are connected up, and the grade of the switch probably all plays a part.

As mentioned, they use omron switches which are in hundreds of other mice types of all makes and models. Switches dying is something that happens occasionally.

How about the G400? Newer ones no longer have angle snapping, defaults to 1000Hz without drivers.

Oh, missed the last line. Uh, CM Spawn?

Ok, I actually happened upon some maybe useful infos: Zalman makes a mouse that costs only like 20 USD in the states at least and uses a Pixart PAN3509DH.
