My bad I shouldn't have made the assumption. I would probably go with the go with the 670 4gb in that case. biggrin.gif

Haha, that's ok. How much difference in performance does the 4gb give opposed to the 2gb? I've seen some reviews and I can't say I'm totally onbard for the extra vram...

Very few games will use the whole 4GB even on ultra settings. What it might mean is that some dynamic graphic textures (like shadows etc) are preprocessed and cached in the extra memory. Personally I would go with 2GB and spend the money you save on a larger SSD.

I've already bought a 256gb ssd, I think it will be plenty for my needs:P In that case, should I go for the 680 or the 670, I've been looking at the 680 msi lightning, it seems like a great card! Does anyone know if it still features overvolting?

Pretty much got this build figured out, here are the specs:

i5 3570k
Asus Maximus V gene
256gb samsung 830 series
(thinking about buying a 3tb harddisk) don't know which are good anymore, how are the seagates?
Corsair AX 750, I know it's overkill, but atm it was cheaper than the 650,
Fractal Design Arc Mini, overall I'm very pleased with the case.
Corsair 8gb 1600mhz LP vengeance, I wanted the Samsung Extreme Low Voltage rams, but the don't sell them in norway sadly...
Asus gtx 670 dcII 4gb, hoping to get a golden sample *crosses fingers* btw, if you're wondering why I chose the 4gb, it's because I'd like to SLI someday, and it too was cheap atm.
I can't buy 2 right now, because I'm studying and need some cash for food, haha.
Corsair H100, changing the fans on this, so far I've considered AP 15's and 14's, the cougars(but sadly they don't stock them in Norway, which sucks!) and the Noctua NF-F12 PWM(even though I want an all black/red theme going on)

I'll also be buying some additional fans for the case, I think.

Questions:

- What would be the best radiator fans that aren't too loud? (I'm coming from the reference 5870 and I find that thing waaay too loud!)
- What would be the best fan configuration? Atm I've set the stock 140mm from the top to the side, one upfront, and one on the back. Which fans would be a great addition, or should I exchange them all?
- Is it easy to paint fans? What would I use?
- What are some good keyboards and switches for my usage (40% typing, 40% gaming, 20% programming) I've tried my friend's das keyboard with blues ( I really enjoyed the click, clack of it all, but I've heard they aren't as good for gaming, which puts me off blues) I've also tried my girlfriends noppoo with browns, I like it a lot because of the tactile feeback and that it has full nkro over usb, don't think I'll be needin the full NKRO thugh, I'm not that into RTS games, I guess 6KRO suits me fine...(the maximus doesn't have a PS2 connector:mad: )
I've also tried a filco red switch and a steelseries 7g with blacks, not sure I like the linear switches. If I were to go for a linear style, I'd probably go for the CM Storm quickfire rapid, they only sell it with blacks and reds here. If I was getting one of the others, I'd either be buying my friends das keyboard or buy a filco since they seem like great keyboards.

...I think that covers it..

PS, I've already bought everything I need, except the fans and the keyboard.

No thoughts?

Your build looks pretty good. For the HDD, many people here suggest using WD's, but really failure rates are the same for both companies.

The best radiator fans I would suggest are the AP-14/15's (esp. the 15). Even though they run at 1850 RPM, they are used all over this forum because of their 1) high static pressure which is required to get good cooling performance on radiators, and 2) low noise output. I'm not a WC'ing expert though, so you might want to ask somebody else for confirmation.

I can't really help you on the fan configuration, I'm not at all good at that. For all I know, I probably don't even have an optimal configuration set up in my case. I really can't help you either with the fan modding, because I'm not the type of person who mods...sorry. :'(

My best suggestion for the keyboard is you try gaming on your friend's Das Keyboard and your GF's Noppoo. Generally the Blues and Browns are for typing, with browns being the compromise between the Blues and Reds. However, Razer says that most gamers prefer Cherry MX Blues, which is why they use Blues in their mech keyboards. Everybody has their own preferences, though. Das Keyboard is a somewhat good brand. If you like backlit keyboards, Ducky's Shine II lineup is exceptional. Leopold's are also good for their price.

I'm glad I found this thread because I was having difficulty deciding between Silverstone or Fractal D for my upcoming mATX build. My build is similar to yours, with:

i5 3570K (got this on discount for $180 USD)
Thermaltake Water 2.0 Performer liquid cpu cooler (discounted for $60, after mail-in rebate = $40)
Seasonic X-Series 650W (also got on discount for $100)
---
Maximum V Gene
256 GB SSD
16 GB RAM (>1600mhz possibly)
Asus 660 Ti (670 seems too expensive to me)
Case: Silverstone TJ08 or Fractal Design Define Mini or Arc Mini (I'm still undecided...)

I've already purchased the top 3 parts, and waiting for possible deals on the rest (hence the specific parts may very well change). Right now I'm using the CM Storm Quickfire Rapid with red switches, and it's my favorite keyboard- I LOVE IT! I far prefer red switches over brown, which is what I used before (Ducky DK1087, considered lower quality). It feels much easier, faster, and smoother to type on linear keys than the tactile style of browns, but that's just my opinion. I highly recommend the Quickfire Rapid because it has great value for a mech keyboard (~$80 USD). However if you're willing to spend more money, I heard Leopold is a good choice, as well as the higher end Ducky Shine (they're backlit!).

Yes...I'm also sad that the Maximus does not have PS2 connectors so I could use NKRO, but I think 6KRO is perfectly fine for even intense usage.

I can give you som feedback regarding my build a little later, I could also post some pictures regarding the case and such. But I gotta say, overall I'm very happy with the case! And I'll probably be going for the rapid with red switches, I originally wanted brown, but they don't sell the the rapid with browns in Norway:(

That would be great! I actually decided on the TJ08, because I prefer ports facing the front rather than the top to prevent dust collection, and also because the Arc is not much smaller than my current mid-tower Antec 300. That said, I may be building an ATX mid-tower PC using the CM Storm Scout 2 instead of micro-atx because it has a carrying handle (major drawback being $100 is quite expensive for just one case fan, and I'll have to spend more money for good case fans).

I'm sure you'll like the rapid, it's a nice keyboard. Unfortunate that you couldn't get your desired switch though.
