Is this TV worth it?

Thread Starter
Hey all, I've got the opportunity to buy this TV new from a private seller (he says its still in plastic) for 795$

I'm upgrading from a 2010 Samsung 3d LCD. Was originally going to go Panasonic plasma but really just want something bigger and better (without spending too much cash) Will be using this for casual tv watching, gaming and occasional movies.

what do you guys think?

Price seems okay. Quite low really. I would take the money and put it towards an LED TV. I am not a big fan of plasma due to burn in possibility. But, if that is your budget then go for it.

I would also go for a LED tv, because what selluminis allready said there is a possibilty of burning in, if there come's to much sun light in your room the screen will look really awfull, so you only would be able to look at a clear sreen in the evening.

Plasma has progressed well, and burn-in generally isn't much of a problem anymore, unless of course you leave it on while paused or something. Just make sure you turn it off when not using it and it should be fine in that aspect.

Looks like a good TV, but definitely do your research before biting the bullet. See what other people have to say about that panel. Who knows, maybe it's terrible and he's just trying to get it off his hands.

Ive had a Samsung plasma for over a year now it it hasn't burned in. It has a setting to move menus and such when it sits idle and most accessories have burn in protection too. I wouldn't worry about it. Pretty soon you wont be able to find the plasmas.

Same here, I have had my samsung plasma for over a year, no burn in, and I used that setting. I also saw that people tested the burn in on the 4th generation(current) plasmas and they left a static image on the screen to test burn in and they gave up after ~72hrs because they got bored and it didnt burn in at all. I love my plasma, 51 inches of samsung quality.

Looks good but "nothing special"
600hz is the standard for plasma
Active 3D is standard
Internet/netcast is nothing worth mentioning

I suggest a 3D LED TV - I'm pretty sure you'll be able to get your hands on one...where from though and at what price, I have no idea.

Plasma's are great - panasonic make the best plasma panels.
However they have literally NO definition when put side by side to an LCD, let alone an Edge LIT LED, and I'm not even gettign into a FULL LED TV.
The ifference is very clear when put side by side, playing the same source -even to a "noob" like myself

Plasmas also use quite a fair bit more power and heat up a fair bit more then LED's.
When Mum and Dad were looking at TV's the salesman was trying to convince them that "Plasmas are the way" then I bought up power and the burn in, he then avoided it. I then got Mum to put her hand on the back of the Plasma in question and compare it to the LED in question and the salesman ate his own words and gave us a discount on the LED TV smile.gif

For the price, yeah it looks alright. I'll always suggest a LED over a Plasma but that's just me.. Look at reviews and you can't go wrong really, maybe ask him why he's selling it? smile.gif

Plasmas have no definition when put next to an LCD? What does that even mean? A pixel is a pixel. Plasmas actually have better moving picture resolution than any other technology. They look just fine in a lit room. A full LED TV is still just an LCD. Plasmas also do not have a 600 Hz refresh rate. They have a 60 Hz refresh rate. The plasma pockets are simply lit up 10 times per 60 Hz.

I really don't get why TVs are so pathetic with motion resolution and the ability to run 4:4:4. There is nothing that sets them apart from monitors. Why can monitors do it for cheap, but TVs suck for an arm and a leg? This is getting quite old, and I feel like we're stuck 10 years ago in the advent of HDTV.
