Dad needs a Mac compatible mechanical keyboard.

Thread Starter
Okay, so Dad is dying to get a new mechanical keyboard for his Mac after seeing my new Maxkeyboard Nighthawk X9. He wants something similar (red backlit, full size) but I can find nothing out of the box ready for Mac other than the Das Keyboard Model S Professional For Mac. It's not backlit but is the nicest I've found and he seems to like the looks of it as well. Any keyboard that requires so much as remapping a single key is going to be too much for him to handle, not to mention the fact that he will be calling me at work 5 times a week asking where the opt & cmd keys are located. Before anyone suggests the Razer Blackwidow Ultimate for Mac, trust me, he'll hate it. I'm pushing the Das for now since it is a simple standard Mac layout and should not require any "relearning". Are there any Ducky's that are Mac ready? I found a reference to the DK9008 being an option but cannot find one NIB anywhere. Dad's a picky individual and may decide to return whatever he gets so a retailer with a good retun policy is also a must.

Any ideas OCN gurus?

well i don't know about other keyboards but i have seen that das keyboard. it's pretty damn sexy if you ask me, and i would totally buy it if i had money and a desktop. also the price seems pretty respectable. i don't know if you're supposed to pay a premium for mac keyboards or something, but it doesn't seem terribly out of line

basically you will have to get a keyboard, switch the keycaps, and switch what the buttons do in the keyboard section of settings in OSX. Then you will have a mac native keyboard.

Razer has some mac-native keyboard if you can afford it smile.gif

Deck sells their keyboards with the option of Mac legends, and they're backlit.

If backlighting is not massively important, most if not all Matias mechanicals can be had with a true Mac layout, i.e Command next to Space (rather than in the Windows-key position) and a Mac-style number pad.

Well time is short, his birthday is 3 weeks away and as he is considering ordering the Das himself I am gonna order it for him as his b-day gift. Good suggestions all and thanks for your input. Now I just gotta stall him on ordering it before I get it in from Newegg.

You could look at the matias tactile pro and the new quiet one too if you haven't already made a definitive choice.
