Need help with wireless connection issue...

AT&T Uverse Residential Gateway 3800 (RG) --> ASUS RT-N16 (Router)

Router has DHCP settings off to defer to RG. Router used as wireless access point. Each unit has static IP on same subnet.

On occasion, wireless devices have trouble connecting. My PC is plugged directly into the router. Laptop has trouble connecting if it connects, then sleeps, then tries to connect again. Blu-ray player has trouble as well sometimes. It will turn on, be fine, maybe I have to restart it because Netflix freezes, will re-boot, then it won't be able to establish a connection.

In all trouble cases, the devices see the network in question, but they can't connect until I unplug the router to cycle it.

Any ideas on how to eliminate this issues? One possible solution was to change WPA2 AES to support both AES/TKIP. I tried that, but the problem is still sporadic.

No one with any ideas? Am I missing vital information?

One thing to add: It would seem that after restarting, we can connect devices no problem. As soon as ALL connected devices disconnect, say, when laptop/phone is in sleep, and the router has no wireless connections at that point, nothing else will be able to connect or reconnect. So when we try to wake a laptop, we'll have to reset the router.

Just a thought, when you look at how many different wireless devices your laptop sees in your area is the number high.Is signal strenght good.Let me go get some info on your devices.

EDIT: Does AT&T give any blessing about using the ASUS device as an access point? I assume this is done as the ASUS device has better signal strenght.Do some experimentation and see if using the AT&T devices wireless function eliminates the problem.I mention the compatibility issue as I have a PFsense box as my router and some access points were listed as not prefered.I use an Intellepoint access point and have no issues.I also use a Q1000 vdsl router (wireless enabled) on a second network without issue.Google your AT&T device and you will find some posts.

Well I started using my device as an access point after my google-fu skills pulled up an article about how to configure everything with the Uverse RG. It was a year or so old, but it appeared completely logical, and everything worked (aside from my documented problem here).

There's really no reason why any particular router would not work. The RG is capable of wireless, but only b/g, and as you suspected, mine is not only N, but also better throughput, signal strength, and range.

There are multiple networks within range as well. I have my router set up to automatically select what's best, assuming it can tell that on it's own. Is there a way I can scan what channels everyone else is on at any given time?
