At only 1080p i would go with the cheapest option. I had this exact question but I decided to go with crossfire because I have eyefinity so I need the extra power even though the 3gb of vram would help. I know that 7950 are going for about $350 and another 6950 is about $150-$175. So go with the xfire unless you can find a 7950 for under $275.

Sell your HD 6950 . you should get 150 bucks. spend another 150 - 170 bucks and get a HD 7950 OC. Gigabyte HD 7950 Windforce is a good option.

here is a user running HD 7950 at 1165 Mhz in BF3 at 5760 x 1080

http://www.overclock.net/t/1253670/any-benchmarks-for-single-7970-680s-running-at-5760x1080

As seen from the user feedback HD 7950 (1.15 Ghz) is easily better than HD 6950 CF.

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Sapphire/HD_7950_Vapor-X/31.html
http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Powercolor/HD_7870_PCS_Plus_Vortex_II/8.html

BF3 1920 x 1200 4x AA

HD 6950 - 35.3
HD 7950 (1135) - 74.8

CF scaling is usually 1.8- 1.9x. the HD 7950 (1135 Mhz) is more than 2x HD 6950 perf. The performance gap increases with higher resolutions like 2560 x 1600 and multi monitor resolutions like 5760 x 1080 where the HD 7950's bandwidth really comes handy.

There's a few 7950s that use the 7970 pcb meaning they are exactly the same. I dunno which card you were planning to use or your case dimensions till now that is, but I'd go with Zvejniex and grab a dremel. tongue.gif
