Another question about folding.

I have multiple machines with FAH installed and set to Overclock.net's team number, 37726. Since I found out that you can only run one machine when competing, I decided against it, seeing that I have multiple computers that I want to put to use with FAH. (They are all in my folding username: oldsk00l90) Is Overclock.net still getting credit from my all my machines, although I am not enrolled in the site's competition?

Someone gave me the answer to this question in another thread. Disregard thumb.gif

Yes, you will still get credit for them all.

I have a machine in the Team Competition, with the name 47_Knucklehead and the team number 37726.

I also have several other machines just in my Folding Farm with the name 47_Knucklehead and the team number 37726.

The ONLY difference between my Team Competition machine setup and the rest is that I have a "passkey" that I ONLY use for my Team Competition setup, and I have a DIFFERENT passkey for my other machines.

That way ONLY the points for my competition can be sorted out by the one passkey, but since the Fold@Home states overall are based on user name, they ALL get counted in my overall total.

You should ALWAYS get a passkey anyway. Once you complete 10 jobs with that passkey, you will get BONUS PPD.

Neither one of my computers have a passkey for the clients. When I get one, will I still get credit for all the jobs my systems have completed beforehand. Also, do you only need one passkey even you are running multiple computers under the same username?

No, the credit starts once you get it and add it to your client.

Well, that depends on what you are doing.

You will need one for any sort of Team Competition here on OCN.

I would suggest you get AT LEAST one more, which you can put on all your other computers and share.

Depending on your server farm, you may want to go with more than 2. For example. You could have 1 for TC, 1 for all your 24/7 folding machines that aren't in TC, and 1 for all your non-24/7 non-TC machines. The reason for splitting up your non-TC machines on separate passkeys is that in order to get the bonus, you also need to maintain a certain amount of "pass/fail" on jobs. So if you have a machine that you only fold a couple hours a day, and maybe not all the time, that machine may end up failing to complete a job, and it will lower your "pass/fail" ratio and may end up dragging down your other machines.

If you are really crazy (and have access to a large number of email addresses ... because a passkey is based off your email address), you could assign each machine (or even each slot ... be it a CPU or GPU ... and you can even run one passkey on a CPU and a separate passkey on a GPU(s) ... even in the same computer) for each of your machines.

For example, here is what I'm running:

And I split things up between 4 keys.

(Also, "Slave Driver" is listed on a separate list, because at the time, that was my Team Competition rig ... and I am running a machine on an old v5 client because it's running on a Windows 2000 Server OS, which will not show up on HFM).

Sorry for being vague, I meant will all the points that my computers have racked up so far still be counted on FAH's website when I look at my user stats? Or will I start at zero again once I get a key?

In other words, will my user stats end up getting completely reset by FAH's website?

Oh, no. Your points will remain the same. The points on the FAH site are based off your name, not your passkey. So any points you have accumulated on that name will remain, regardless if you have a passkey or not, or if you change that passkey.

The only way you will "lose" those points is if you change your FAH name. For example, I used to Fold under a different alias, and when I started Folding for OCN, I came up with a new alias and lost about 3.5 million points. But that has nothing to do with a passkey.

What sort of rig are you thinking about folding on? Do you have a particular team in mind?
