Gentle Typhoon On H80

Thread Starter
I've been trying to decide on purchasing 2 Gentle Typhoons 5400 RPM, for use with my H80. Frozencpu.com will convert the 4 pin molex in to a 3 pin plug. Would this work with the 4 pin connectors on the h80's water block, so I can control the fan speed with it?

They will most likely use a adapter. I would invest in a Fan Controller. But if it's a "True 3 Pin" you can control the speed with ease.

I would verify the amount of current the 5400 RPM GT's use and the current output rating of the H80's built-in fan controller.

Each AP-31 (5400RPM) fan pulls 1.14A. So double that you get 2.28A. The stock Corsair fans aren't even close to that, so I'd be cautious. Why are you wanting to run 5400RPM Gentle Typhoons anyways? Those things are louder than you think at full speed. Why not go with a lower current draw GT, such as the a 3000RPM (AP-29)? Those would be easier on both the built in fan controller and your ears. You'll even save yourself a couple bucks.

The CFM on the 3000rpm, is only 83. That's about what the stock H80 ones run at.

Yeah but the static pressure is dramatically higher. It's not all about CFM, it's a matter of air flow and static pressure combined. Static pressure is the ability of the fan to push air through a ventilated surface. So you could have a 10,000 CRM fan, but if it had a static pressure of .1mm H20, the air wouldn't be able to push through the radiator very well.

Gentle Typhoon fans are going to push the air through the radiator more efficiently and more powerfully, and with push/pull the fans blow the Corsair stock ones out of the water.

It would be nice if retailers listed static pressure on their site.
