AMD Sticking with AM3+ for steamroller as well, hmmmmm

Interesting. I was thinking Piledriver would be the last chip my 990FX board would ever see for sure. I might have this thing for a while then!

Looks like i have to rethink my decision of getting an APU as i only gave it a thought since i was under the impression that AM3+ would be a dead socket after Vishera. This could be good news if it's entirely true as i really do not need an APU as i will be using a discrete graphics card.

If this gives me another upgrade option down the road, it may be something I'll consider when buying piledriver over buying an Ivy bridge, since that will be the end of the road for the 1155 socket...Also HARDOCP already reviewed PCI Express 3.0 as being a gimmick and offering zero performance gains over 2.0...decisions decisions...

Great something worth while to upgrade from my 1090T x6 Phenom II in the future smile.gif

I'm not sure if I like this, AMD need all the performance boost they can get and I'm sure they could gain more from AM4 than staying with AM3+.
