I currently have a STR-DB900

this only has optical in's no HDMI.

Is it worth me swapping to a newer STR-DH520 for £150 or would this be a downgrade?

If you want to use Blu-Ray lossless decoding, it'd be worth it. Otherwise, they look to be about the same.

ok kool. might stick this out for a bit then.

just been going through my current amps settings

ATM its only plugged in through optical to everything as thats all it has.

So sorted out all the settings properly distance and other settings.

my LG bluray has the following setting which should I be using to get the best sound.

1)
HDMI - PCM Stereo, PCM Multi-CH, DTS Re-Encode, Primary Pass-Through

Digital Output - PCM Stereo, DTS Re-Encode, Primary Pass-Through (its on atm)

Im not bothered about the HDMI as its not connected via that atm but could you say if it was also please

2)
sampling Frequency - 48KHz, 96KHZ (its on atm), 192KHZ

3)
DRC - Auto (on atm), On, Off
Thx for any help

1. HDMI PCM Multi-CH would be best, that will allow your blu-ray to decode lossless and pass it to the receiver.

2. See if there is an option to leave sampling unchanged; if not, go for 24-bit, 192KHz so that it will allow you to pass the lossless without fiddling with it. Also, make sure your receiver can handle it; if not, you'll have to set it to 24-bit, 48KHz or something and just have the blu-ray player process it.

3. Try off and play back a blu-ray using lossless audio and see if it can handle the multi-channel PCM bandwidth. If either machine can't cut it, then turn it back to auto.
