New here, new build, first build, whats next?

Hi all!

I'm new here and would like to share my first proper build with you and maybe get some constructive criticism too.

I've had this system up and running now for a month or so and i'm pretty happy with the results i'm getting, as i'm totally new to overclocking and modding really. It has been my dream for some time tho, but now as my pc usage needs alot more power that my old unit offered, i saw my chance to build at least more proper pc and try a trick or two too.

What I've done now is carefull clockking and learning of the system and how stuff works together and what does what and how.

Now I think I'm getting pretty close to the max that tis system can run at really and would like to ask you guys some advice for the future tests and setups for the system to get the most out of it without burning the house down.

I'm a semi-professional photographer and i use very heavy editing software and mostly use at least 3 programs at the same time, so i'm usually pushing the system quite a lot compared to an average surfer out there. I also work a lot around video editing and rendering.

I have to admit that I do play games too when I have the time. Mostly and pretty much only MW3.

I just completed the Prime95 Blend test that i have used to use. The tests i'm running are 3 hour runs and i'm pretty sure it's ok for me for now.

The only time the prime has crashed, was when i pushed my Kingstons down to 6-6-6-22. The test failed at 5 mins mark. Now i raised the clocks up to 8-8-8-21 and it ran the 3 hour test with no problems. Akasa fan controls external temp reading on the outer shell of the memory gave me a max of 45.3 degrees celsius.

here's some screen caps of the system and some reports from HWM. Please let me know what you think, and what is recommended to do next.

Thanks! JONI

Here's few new screens of the test I just completed. I found out that rising the multiplier to 21.5 will make the Prime95 crash under 2 minutes. Actually the whole pc goes down like snap. I managed to keep it up by turning up the cpu voltage, but then backed down and decided to rise the bus speed as a test from the std 200 to 202. Now it raised the cpu clock but will it do harm as it affects the other values too?

here's few screens. I have HWM data too if needed.

From 200 to 202, it probably wouldn't affect anything unless you have severely unstable RAM. That said, your chip might be at a heat wall, at least one that would prevent too much more voltage. 55C TCase is the general recommendation as AMD rates their chips based on this. (62.5C, not 100% sure if this applies to the 965 as well, but that's easy to find out).

I'm not sure if it was the cpu or the ram that killed the attempt of 21.5 really. I was getting over 1.460 to get it there and start the Prime and not to fail.

Now that last screens i uploaded show a max core temps of 44.5 celsius. That should still be ok? Now at the moment the cores run at 32 degrees celsius.

Should i try to get the Memory back up to the std 9-9-9-27 and then rise the cpu clock again? What about NB? I'm running it at 2626.2 at the moment

Oh what does that 55C TCase mean?

Multiplier failures are pretty much 100% the CPUs fault. 1.46vCore won't hurt a Deneb chip, if you can keep the temperatures down, 1.55v is even safe-ish on those chips.

Core temperatures are irrelevant. TCase or "CPUTIN" are what AMD uses for it's specifications. The cores are always hotter than TCase, even if they don't report it because they are calibrated to an arbitrary scale.

2600+ is golden, 3000 is generally the "sweet spot" for these, but 2600 is good. What is your CPUNB voltage? If your RAM is at it's stock settings, then just leave it be. Overclock one thing at a time wink.gif
