Budget Conroe build - Page 3

P5B's usually OC a bit better than the S3/DS3.

Asus P5B = "Lower" end version, no "R" version chipset, can only do RAID with 2 drives.

Asus P5B-E = Same as the normal one, cept with the ICH8R SB - 4 drive RAID.

Asus P5B Deluxe = Same as the P5B-E 'cept with two PCI-E slots vs 1.

Asus P5B Deluxe Wifi = Bunch of extras, with an optional wifi adapter.

Correct Pook. Note that setting up a 2-disk RAID on the P5B (vanilla) is tedious. The RAID will be set up on the secondary controller, of which one SATA connector is onboard and the second connector is an eSATA connector on the backpanel of the motherboard.

My vote for budget would go to the Gigabyte S3

For performance, I'd go all the way to the P5B Deluxe.

Thanks Chozart and Pook!

I think the P5B-E is the winner as I don't need that second PCI-E slot but I would rather stick with Asus and I am partial to the ability to OC better, even if its only a little bit.

Just a couple more days until my sig parts are taken off of my hands... then its off to C2D+7900GT land...
