Which WC setup, EX360 vs RX360 vs EX420

Hey guys, I'm considering to shift to water cooling. No, I haven't ever done WC before, so Yes I'm certainly new to this. I've used all kinds of high-end air coolers, so now I thought that I'd give WC a try.

I ordered a Switch 810 and am making and wanting to have a 360 rad WC setup. I know that custom WC solutions comes with different kinds of fittings, pumps, blocks, etc which is a bit new to me.

1) Well first from those guys with first hand experiences, within my limited budget till $250 +/- ,are these XSPC kits that I've mentioned in the title any good? If so, then what are the main differences between them? I know that the RX series has a fatter rad as compared to the EX series.

2) For a custom loop, what would be the best components/parts to makeup this setup? e.g. What is the best waterblock to get these days, the same with a good rad, pump and so on.

For now I'll only be cooling my CPU, but yea I'd like some future proofing if I add another loop for the GPU. Mention all the possibilities/prices that you guys are aware of. Thanks.

The RX and EX rads are basically the same. The EX radiators are a quad pass design that allows them to cool like the RX and its 2 pass system while keeping a slimmer profile. You really won't notice a difference between the two and I wouldn't hesitate to run either of them. As for size, I would get the biggest radiator you can fit into your case. It's much easier to and cheaper to buy big the first time then later on when you decide to water cool your GPU(s) and other components.

As for the custom setup...I personally use all SR1 radiators by HWLabs. They are some of the finest radiators on the market, they look good and offer terrific cooling capacity. The EX series from XSPC are also very nice for the price. I would suggest a single D5 vario pump or MP35x DDC. If you combine that pump with a decent top it will offer more pumping power than you'll need and be virtually silent. CPU blocks are pretty much all the same these days so i would just buy one that suits you in the looks department because even the best blocks vary by 1-2C from the middle to low range variants.

I have the pump/res combo from the d5 kit and it is really awesome, I would caution that if you get it find an adequate tool for the job of loosening and tightening the fill cap. Mine is already kind of chewed up using pennies and the moonsoon free center wrench.

Also the switch is a breeze to build in. The only reason I would consider a different case would be for portability.

thumb.gif Good luck and have fun thumb.gif

also push pull on a thin rad usually does better than just push or just pull on a thick rad.

If you search the Official Switch 810 thread for IT Diva's post... she is a woman among mice.. or men.

I use a nickel or a quarter because it fits the slot better.

Sad, I tried finding it, but I'm not sure if it's available in the US market as yet.

Hi, nice choice on the Switch. I have 2 loops in mine, a CPU loop and a GPU loop.

I've since added all sorts of bells and whistles, but at first.. just the CPU loop was:

XSPC Raystorm: $50

XSPC EX360: $60

XSPC Dual Bay Res: $45

OCN bmaverick DDC Pump: $35

Monsoon Compression Fittings: $36

Kill-Coil $7

Primochill Tubing $2 per ft.

Bgears B-Blaster 120's $7 ea. Awesome fans, very good for radiators.

If you don't want a dual bay res, plenty of nice tube reservoirs out there. Also dual loop XSPC bay reservoirs.
I like the Crossflow EX360 more, should look into that one.
Monsoons are pricey, You can pickup XSPC Compessions for $4 each.
Almost all tubing out there plasticizes, but if you don't want clear tubing Primochill would be fine. If you do, Durelene I believe.
Consider spending more on the rad, SPARC mentioned having the SR1, It's probably one of the best radiators bar none. I believe the 420 edition will match up w/ the Switch 810's screw holes and fit there too.

Twin D5 Dual Bay Reservoir/Pump Combo with pumps in Series. Maximum Head Delivery: 7.7m (12V) Both D5's are used together increasing head pressure.

The Kit should be out at FrozenCPU or Performance-Pcs

Performance-Pcs has all the parts for sale separate but I have not seen the kit yet. You can contact Performanc-Pcs and request items and they can get it.

I have an Alphacool UT60 NexXxos 420 in top of Switch and 8 holes is all I had to drill; easy enough. I cut drive bay for front fan to have clear air flow path. The new switch has slots on top radiator mount letting you mount 15mm or 20mm radiators.
