His fans like him because he's been good to them. Haters seem to hate him because he's human.
Especially with his poor coding and months of vacation. He's okay, but definitely over-hyped by his user base. Most indie devs are the same way, thinking like they know everything, much like the art students to the science world, and this one was put on a pedestal as if he was a gaming god.

Except that's not going to happen, especially due to the multitude of programs in the enterprise and business sector that do not and will not go through the marketplace.
Groundless fear-mongering, that's all this is.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, they need to fire Steve Ballmer and then make a Metro style UI but catering to desktop users, think of it like if instead of simply sharing the css (styles) file for their mobile, tablet and desktop webpages, they've instead just made the one web-page with very slight alterations for each platform, so it's good for what they're focusing on but meh for everything else.
I think they do need a new CEO, but at the same time, the point of it all is to bring the desktop like experience to the mobile market. The GUI is not hard to get used to and has little to no bearing on people who have some sort of intuition.
