[GR] Notch Snubs Microsoft, Refuses to Certify Minecraft for Windows 8. - Page 4

There are good reasons developers don't want to support the locking down of the world's most popular desktop OS.

It will also mean an easier way for new products to get known, better product cycling, even give popular products a "right in your face" view to new consumers. No, I don't think profits will fall when companies are going to have their products slabbed on the front page of where most people are going to be viewing every day.

The Windows 8 threads are only posted here because people are running out of reason to knock the OS. Windows has always been a walled garden, though not to the extent of OSX. If you want a true open platform that you can do anything with, then install Fedora Linux, otherwise pipe-down.

But wait: Linux and OSX have an application repository that doesn't require you to sell your products there! No way, unheard of. /s

But wait: Its funny to see PC gamers support him yet he feels the same way about Steam, but those same PC gamers support and cherish Steam...While simultaneously denouncing EA's DD service. Hypocrisy at it's finest and thickest core. You guys seriously need to alter your worldview or work to eliminate the double standards.

These certifications are nothing but good. As long as Windows 8 doesn't block non-certified programs you still have a open platform.
Certification means your program follows a specific set of rules in regards how it behaves, such as;
1.1 Your app must not take a dependency on Windows compatibility modes, AppHelp message, and or any other compatibility fixes
4.1 Your app must handle critical shutdowns appropriately
5.1 Your app must properly implement a clean, reversible installation
Windows 8 Software Certification gives you programs that behave in a specific and predictable way according to a unified set of rules.

/thread

But wait: Even if developers decide to put their applications in the app store, they will still be taken to a third-party site to download and pay for the application.

*yawn*

Ya.

Ya.

Okay.

*stretch*

Wake me up when Notch DEMANDS that iOS, Valve, Android, XBLA and wherever that are actually closed systems make their Os's/environments the exact way he wants before supporting them as he is doing with Microsoft.

Then, maybe all his crying about the most open OS/environment out of the all the others mentioned previously wont make him sound to me like like a hypocrite attempting to score internet points/relevancy.

The fact that I cannot get to 'my computer' from the start menu pisses me off. Additionally, I cannot get into the control panel easily. Man... I'm really hating windows 8 and I understand why notch does too.

The metro ui, and app store to me just point in the direction that MS wants to be competitive in the smartphone and tablet space, these 2 things are basically requirements for them to even have a chance. They are not to alienate customers, or stop distribution of pc gaming.

Another person who is blindly following what people say without researching how the new W8 works.

Right click that corner and boom.

W7: left click the start bar and boom.

Same exact thing. 1 click and you have the option.
