Based on this article they should AT LEAST repair it????
Also I think the second PCI-E port has the same problem as yours does, i think theres a homebrew way to fix it (or fry it).
All the things on that list besides 2, including Dirt build-up, which they clean, is free whilst even under warranty they charge you for everything else. Wow, never buying Asus again definitely, piss-poor warranty conditions.
Wow, that's quite a story. Hope for you that Asus refunds you - that's the only decent thing left to do.

5 months ago I bought an Asus Sabertooth X79 board because of the 5 years warranty, some good reviews, and the recommendation of a technician at the PC shop. Now I regret my purchase, though for different reasons. If I had read your story then, I'd never have considered Asus.

Today I wrote a review on my motherboard here on overclock.net. I came to the conclusion that Asus products in general cannot be recommended at the moment, since Asus only supports Microsoft OS. You just showed me that my initial thoughts were faulty too - if Asus doesn't honor their warranty, what is it worth?

I regret that I have given Asus free advertising in my posts. But I will rectify the situation.

Thanks for sharing your experience and warning other buyers.

I appreciate everyone's response. I am doing my best to stay neutral, and treat this as isolated: that is just to display this information in a non-slandering manner and let you guys decide for yourself.

It's encouraging for me to hear other opinions matching my own. I confessed early on that I am an ASUS fanboy, or was. I am getting burned by them, so no matter how I present this information, I will be slightly biased. In addition, I have already had to buy a second motherboard.

I will keep everyone up to speed.

P.S. Current ASUS owners, try not to feel ill at ease, this is my second RMA experience with them, and while the first one could have been slightly shorter, it was no way as bad as this one has been.

Sounds like a painfull situation to be in. I hope they will give you what you deserve.

I have had to deal with a warranty RMA issue only once. It was by Activision and they dealt with it amazingly well.

I RMAd a 990FX board and they sent me a board with a broken chip as a replacement. After literally many hours on the phone they sent out another replacement. It just seems to depend on who you talk to. I would call them up and ask to talk to a manager and then just keep escalating it up the chain of managers. In my experience email is not going to get the job done as effectively. I ended up calling back several times and finally got the right person who took care of things. Hopefully they do the right thing. They did in my case eventually. Good luck!

Email has its advantages too. You can post your mails to Asus and their replies on forums like this here, and send Asus a link (or many links). Thanks to Google, and using the right terminology and key words, these posts come up quickly on searches and help others to identify problems. Last not least, any vendor would be well advised to keep this noise level down - by reacting promptly and efficiently.

I was going to go ASUS, but I think this might of changed my mind a bit.. If there is one thing i can not tolerate, it is poor quality assistance with items bought some place. If they are providing a service, they better do their best to provide every single portion of that service that they say they will. This really takes the cake for ass-hat award of the year to those reps..
I hope the situation actually works out for you! Thanks for sharing this bit of information.

Well that sounds really bad !

I like Asus but if i read things like this ,they gonna change my mind !
About their Customer Services and bying Products from them !

My story:

I had a rma last year with a GTX 285 AMP! from Zotac that was a odysse about 4/5 months !

The RMA Partner of Zotac was PC-Partner .

Every card i received looked smokey or burnt ?! what the heck ?
Only the last one was good and is working on a friend's PC.

Fail 285> fail 470> FAIL !! 470 but it was a 465 !! the last one was a real new 570 which worked out of the box !

And @ least paid 80 euros to send the card from Austria to Britain !

Sigh. So here is the end of week 12 it feels like. No update to the RMA status this morning, whatever, I have Modern Physics homework due today, so I will just work on that, have a non-ASUS on the mind kind of day. It was going really well. Thats when I logon to the new ZA-Z77X-UD5H and see this little delight notice. Only this, still no response from "Monica". I am sure had they done something nice, like replace the board, that would have gotten back to me first. Instead, we are all probably sure, the board is being returned back.

So still no response, this is my 2nd consecutive email to her/ASUS.
Quote:
I would just like to let you know, your RMA website contacted me today with a FEDEX return to me. The RMA website had no new status this morning. I have not monitored this site all day, but there has been no other communication.

Likely event you have either:
Optimistic Scenario - Don't want to deal with me anymore, have sent me another board that is hopefully working.

Pessimistic Scenario - Your haphazard system has deemed my board due for return automatically by the imposed 5 day deadline you had previously sent me.

I would say I am fairly displeased. Don't take any of this personally either Monica, but unfortunately for you, you are my only direct contact to ASUS at the moment. I would recommend handing me off to a Manager. See #2 below.

Reasons for Disappointment
1.) Still no reply from you, or anyone at ASUS, on my last email going 8 days now.
2.) Returned my board. No other information given.
2.) Still no manager.
3.) Still no confirmation of damage.
4.) No corrected statement regarding Thermal Pads.
5.) No response to the TUF 5 Year Warranty terms, specifically North American Limitation #3.

I am not going to bring up any more legal retort. Your lawyers could crush me and I can't really afford legal representation.

I do have a little bit of extra time. I can, and will, afford a brief 5 minutes each day, from now till they shut down Overclock.net. To keeping this thread (LINK) I am sure interest will wain in my particular case, but I will make sure its at least the top of the list once a day.
