Are you going to be doing extreme overclocking with ln2? If not, get this instead: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102982&name=Desktop-Graphics-Cards

WAY better deal for $120 less. Tahiti cards all overclock similarly. A good overclock is generally 1200-1300MHz on the core and 1600MHz+ on the memory. The Matrix doesn't overclock any better than any other ordinary 7970.

I love the cool matrix L.E.D logo, I just wish they would add a feature that lets you change the colors of the load sensor to your preference
With my rig being mostly red and black, the bright blue that the logo would glow for most of the time set off the tiny OCD sensors in the back of my head.

I have that very card, and I'm still swooning over the ASUS ROG one. Unless you go for a custom cooler (voiding the warranty), the fans on mine are very whiny and audible over 60% of max RPM, and overclocking over 1100MHz+ on core raises VRM1 temperature to ~80C at load unless I turn up the fans high (very loud). Oh and a lot of coil whine / electrical buzzing type sound at certain loads / menus (not the PSU's fault - tried 2 different PSUs). I realize every card is different, but this Matrix card receives top reviews on every site I've looked at so far:

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviewdb/Graphics-Cards/ATI/HD-7970/

Oh and if GTX 680s can go for $500+ with locked voltage, nothing wrong with a stronger card with unlocked voltage going for $500 (that's at release, before any sales kick in).

Get a 7950 and overclock it. You'll get 95-97% of 7970 performance for much less $ spent thumb.gif
