Best keyboard for competitive gaming? - Page 2

Blues are not good for gaming. I have a Filco blue board, and double tapping (dodge jumping in Unreal Tournament, etc) is not ideal due to the release and actuation point being at different heights on this switch.
I'd say, cherry browns. As for the keyboard itself, I'd personally choose a well build keyboard with no gimmicky features, like a Filco/Leopold cherry brown board. Of there is now a huge list of gaming companies that have jumped on the mech KB bandwagon, and at the end of the day it's the switch that really matters.

I know nothing about other games, but I know that a lot of Starcraft 2 players use blue switches which they seem to like very much (myself included). For Starcraft the double tab thing does not seem to be a problem, but like always, different people like different things. I am just pointing out that for Starcraft 2, it does not seem to matter much which switch you choose and not all people like all switches. For other games however, I completely agree that blue switches are probably not ideal.

lol im not looking for anything to make me a better gamer, but the buttons on my $20 microsoft keyboard are sticking, would that be a good reason to upgrade?

I don't think the mech key switches matter much if you bottom out the keys while gaming.

Edit: Different types of key switches have varying amount of force to actuate and register. This just comes down to personal preference. Players can compete competitively with a decent rubber dome keyboard though. Mech keyboards do feel nice to me.

However, I see that more and more are using a mechanical keyboard and those all have a "fancy" price tag compared to those rubber dome keyboards.
Edit: the rubber dome many used was the Qsen DT-35.

This.

Most pro's only use high end gear because of sponsors.

I'd generally recommend the sidewinder x4. Otherwise just go with a cheap generic rosewill or something from newegg.
[edit] Mechs feel nicer and are generally better built then 'normal' keyboard, but cost more to go with it. There is no actual performance gain from them.

There generally is some electrical difference when talking about mechanical keyboards.

Generally, most keyboards handle specific circuits with higher priority than others.

I'd second that. I bottom the keys out when I play/type, and I won't ever touch a robber dome keyboard again. The feel of mechanical keyboard is something that no other robber dome keyboard has. Hell, even the loud sound grows on you, and if it for some reason doesn't, there's 'non-clicky' mechanical keyboards too.

Agreed. I enjoy the loud clacky sound of the mechanical keyboards.
