ok so im decided on a 7950. Now my question is, which brand do you guys recommend? I've owned already 2 xfx cards with good luck, no problems whatsoever with either. Should i stick with the xfx or maybe try the gigabyte, msi, or sapphire card?

the Gigabyte is 337.55 after shipping
the XFX is 269.99 after rebate.

the gigabyte is $67.56 more than the xfx but also has a 100mhz higher clock.

Which brand do you guys recommend and which one would be the better overclock candidate.

If I were you I'd get the XFX. Those cards run cool and quiet, my friend has it. He doesn't overclock his but I think it'd overclock pretty well with that cooler.

Wait about 4-6 months for a 8950 and be much happier in the long run. Buying a "current" tech this close to the release date of the next will leave you wanting...

6870 is a fine card. It's got you this far, milk that cow for a couple more months.

Get the XFX if you want to save some money. The Gigabyte is one of the best ones you can get though, it will overclock pretty high and stay relatively quiet at lower fan speeds.

Haha the one thing i hate about technology, its always changing and you always have to keep buying new stuff to stay up to date. Im in the same boat with getting a Samsung 830 ssd. apparently the 840 came out or is suppose to come out so its like do i wait for the price to come down or wait for the new one.... Same with the graphics card. See my theory is this, for example, sell my card now while its still worth anything and buy a 7xxx series now. Or, wait till the 7xxx cards get cheaper and or wait for the 8xxx series cards and in return, the value of my current card will be less. So basically the end result is the same sell low, buy low or sell moderate and buy moderate.

That's how it is unfortunately. Better to sell while it still has any value. The 7950/7970 and GTX 670/680 are all overkill for single monitor gaming anyway.

Ok, i had CF6850 and upgrade to >>>> Single HD7950 this one XFX7950BE
and to be honest, the difference in performance it is noticeable...

with that being said, i have x3 455 OC at 3.7 and i have to say, it bottleneck my XFX7950 a lot at least on BF3,
sometimes i get 40fps on BF3 64players max out ultra... of course depending the situation.
most of the time im hovering 50+ fps ultra. meaning that your AMD x4 955 OC should be fine with the 7950. AMD will be realesing new CPU
this month or next one tho.

get the XFX card its looks nice and has very good cooling also, u can OC it at 1050/1500 with just a 3% voltage increase. thumb.gif

That's not overkill if you want ALL MAX SETTINGS including AA.
