ASUS Z77 - 127 degrees - someone help me laugh this off plz

Thread Starter
so as stated the Asus AI suite is telling me that the motherboard is 127 degrees and the warning won't go away. I preface this by acknowledging that I am certainly not using this gimic software when it comes to OC'ing, tweaks, etc. Of course I use BIOS, but the Fan expert 2 is pretty cool, so I use it when stress testing and overall to run my fan ramps, etc.

I am working on dialing in my OC with prime95 and today, out of no where this silly temp warning came up when I opened AI suite to set the fans to fixed rpm max for my stress test. so please, can someone help me laugh this off to a faulty feedback. I don't think the sensor is faultly necessarily because HWinfo64 and HWMonitor seem to be doing there job and I am now, oh, over an 1hr into my prime test, so wouldn't I be flat out frying something and probably smelling something, heck for that matter it would have shut down if that was a real temperature?

any input is much appreciated as I prefer to leave prime running as I am really close to being dialed in and would like to hit my 12hr mark for ivy stable club sooner than later.

thanks! biggrin.gif

Speed Fan gave me a similar reading on my old DG31PR too. I checked the heatsink's temperature with a laser thermometer and it surely wasn't that hot. It's nothing to worry about, just a faulty probe.

I wouldn't use PC Probe II. It's somewhat poorly written software. I would use something more reliable like HWMonitor.

yeah, I've got HW Monitor and HWinfo64 both in the background telling me that nothing is wrong, but I wanted a second opinion. I love the fan expert 2 piece of AI suite since I've got 5 fans including my evo push/pull connected to mobo. maybe I should just uninstall AI suite and then try to reinstall only the fan expert part of it.

thanks to all for your help, I knew that temp couldn't be legit! cheers.gif

back to dialing in my OC...

in the IA suite you can turn off what it monitors
post #8 of 27
it is very likely your MOSFETs are at that temperature, MOSFETs run very hot when they are one, but they aren't on that often as you might think. thus they don't give off much heat like you would expect, kind of like a ivy bridge CPU. It prod is reading it high, most FETs have thresholds set at 130C as their juncture temp is usually around 150C.

I think its prob a glitch tho, that is kind of high, unless you have no airflow over the VRM and you are OCing.

I agree with you about the MOSFETs, but that's not where this sensor is reading from according to what I can find, so I also agree that it's probably a feedback error, but you peaked my interest and I would also like a definition of airflow over the VRM if you would.

First let me tell you how I have it now. I have push/pull evo, then a top fan and rear fan running higher cfm than the push/pull itself, which is a must to avoid turbulent exiting air, otherwise one is removing the purpose of the push/pull HSF alltogether and then making it work harder, etc. then I have a front fan on the case, but of course this in-line with the HDD and SSD because the optical drive is technically in direct path to the VRM. I have no way to put direct airflow on the VRM MOSFETs that I am aware of, but I'm a scientist and no wiz at this DIY stuff yet and why I am here in the first place, so if you think I've got room for improvement on the cooling side, I'm all ears.
thanks. biggrin.gif

i have had false warnings on 2 motherboards,,,crosshair v formula,,and sabertooth z77,,,,its AI suitte II,,,it not very compatible with anything,,,as soon as i open HW monitor,,,both motherboards within 10 secounds AI suitte II will issue a low voltage or high temp warning,,,crazy stuff,,,just ignore it,,,
